GIFT PROVIDES LASTING TRIBUTE - June Zettel and her granddaughter Roseanne Saldivar, 4, are
shown in front of an entertainment -unit cabinet which was purchased for the patients' lounge at Seaforth
Community Hospital in memory of Jeanne Saidivar, June's daughter, who died in a car accident at the
age of 21. The piece, made by Roy Oesch of Vanastra, was brought to the hospital last week. It was
purchased with memorial donations made in Jeanne's memory.

JAZZ SALESMEN - Stratford jazz trio, The Salesmen, entertained the crowd at the St. Thomas Anglican
Church "Jazz Night" which featured French cuisine specially prepared by local culinary artists Paul Spittal
and Ken Larone. The band featured, from left: Mike Harmer, on keyboards; Tim Adair, drums; Wade
Whittaker, bass. The trio are part of a bigger band, Illusion, which has played in Seaforth in the past.
Presbyterians honour Robbie Burns
For over 200 years, people have
been gathering to celebrate the
birthday of Robbie Burns, the Scot-
tish poet. This custom was con-
tinued on Sat. Jan. 29, when the
Bible Study group of First Presby-
terian Church hosted the Burns'
Supper. Rev. Jim Sloan "paraded"
the haggis among the 'sceptical'
diners, gave the address to the
haggis (we think - most of us
weren't sure what he was saying)
and then 'we ready slight', plunged
his dagger into our supper. After
the Burns blessing a delicious pot
luck supper was enjoyed including
the traditional 'Bashed Neaps'
(mashed turnip) and 'Tattics' (pota-

Skating honours
110th anniversary
A skating party, celebrating the
110th birthday of Hensall, was held
Jan. 22 at the Hensall Community
Centre. The party was sponsored by
the Economic Development Com-
mittee. Scan Consitt, 11/2 year old
son of Mark and Sandra Consitt
won the prize for the youngest
skater. Clarke Forrest won the prize
for the oldest.
The sympathy of the community
is expressed to the family of the
late Ross McNichol. Sympathy is
also extended to Betty Oke and her
family in the passing of her father
Lloyd O'Brien.
A successful annual meeting and
pot luck lunch took place, this
Sunday, at the Hensall United
Church, following morning worship.
Thursday afternoon the ladies group
will meet at 2:30 p.m. The Friend-
ship Circle will meet February, 7 at
1:30.

toes) to enhance the haggis.
Margaret Sharp gave an interest-
ing and informative biography of
Robbie Burns and of his love of
nature, the maidens and a wee 'nip'
of John Barley Corn.
Annie Malcolm and Jim Sloan
assisted Margaret reading poems
relating to the parts of Burns' life
she was recalling. Bob McMillan,
dressed for the occasion in his
ancestral MacDonald tartan blazer,
his McMillan tartan tie and his
Seaforth Centennial tartan glengarry
entertained with an "Ode to a
Cow", and selections on the
juiceharp and mouthorgan. Carol
Carter played a medley of reels and
hornpipes on the piano and accom-
panied guest soloist Paul Zurbrigg
as he sang two Scottish songs,
almost like a true Scotsman.
The evening concluded with a
sing -song of Scottish favourites and
everyone departed into the snowy
night saying "its' a Draw, Bricht,
Moonlicht Night" feeling like
"ken". If the hour had been earlier,
the "piped -up Presbyterians" would
have dropped by the Anglican
Church to mix in a few jigs with
their jazz.

Residents busy
Welcome 19941 Hopefully it will
be a great year for everyone.
New Years at Maplewood started
off with a bang! Residents enjoyed
a fun -filled New Year's party. They
played some competitive but lively
games of euchre and crockinole.
The question of the month is
"What's your New Year's Resol-
ution?"
Maplewood Manor's weekly
euchre games are filled with lots of
lone hands. I think someone must
be stacking the deck! Thanks to
Anne Downey for assisting each
week and residents hope Marjorie
Maloney will soon be able to come
and join.
Weekly exercise classes seem to
be making a difference. Maplewood
residents are aiming to lose a few
of those extra pounds they gained
over the Christmas season.
Ministerial services were con-
ducted by Father Henry, Reverend
Sloan and Reverend Stadelbauer
Sampa.
Residents are busy making Easter
crafts which willbe sold at the
Garage Sale March 25.
Bingo has remained the best
attended event around Maplewood.
Thanks goes to Eva McCartney for
taking charge each week.
January's musical entertainment at
Maplewood was supplied by Carol
Carter, Bill Gibson and Marion
Rose, who played some Scottish
tunes for Robbie Burns Day. Rever-
end Sloan was also present. He
presented a slide show of Scotland
as well as some poetry and music.
Thanks go to Rev. Sloan for shar-
ing his Scottish heritage.
Keeping in tune with the weather,
residents watched "Snowbound" -
the video for movie night.
Spring can't come soon enough!
