Legion donates $15,000 to ..hospital
BY TIM CUMMING

The contribution of the Royal
Canadian Legion is often recog-
nized on Remembrance Day. The
work of the Legion, however, con-
tinues year-round...just ask Bill
Thibert, Chief Executive Officer of
the Seaforth Community Hospital.
"We're very appreciative of the
local branch and the Charitable
Foundation," he said, after accept-
ing two cheques from the Legion
groups.
On Thursday Seaforth Legion
Branch 156 (and the Legion Ladies'
Auxiliary) presented the local hos-
pital with a donation of $9,000. The
Royal Canadian Legion's Charitable
Foundation added another $6,000 to
the facility.
The combined donation of
$15,000 will allow the hospital to
purchase six electric beds for the
comfort of patients.
"This is a major improvement for
us in terms of patient care and
comfort," said Thibert. "Patients
can control their own positioning on
the bed and it's also convenient for
nursing staff."
Legion President Errol Skillender
thanked the Charitable Foundation,

Auxiliary for helping to make the
donation possible.
The Charitable Foundation's
donation to the hospital was
approved at the fall meeting of the
fund's directors. For the past three
years the Legion's Charitable Foun-
dation has been giving about
$600,000 throughout Ontario to
hospitals and other charitable insti-
tutions.

Since Oct. 15, 1993 a small group
of mothers and their children have
been meeting every Friday morning
at the Woman's Resource Centre in
Seaforth for co-operative
playschool. The children range in
age from infant to 5 years old and
the program is free. Thanks to the
participants and the volunteers the
program is quite successful, so
successful in fact, that the group
has quickly outgrown the Woman's
Resource Centre.
Thanks to a generous offer by
Northside United Church, starting
Feb. 4, 1994 the Playschool will be
meeting in\the church's basement.
The prograht will continue to run
every Friday morning from 9 a.m.
to 11:30 a.m. Anyone wishing to
join is invited to come out and see
just what the group is all about. If
you wish more information you can
also call Terri Shobbrook-Ward at
527-0113.
The Playgroup thanks the
Woman's Resource Centre for
giving them their start. Although
the group will miss the Centre they
are looking forward to their new
home.
