EAST WAWANONH
The last meeting of the council for
1916 was held on Dec. 15th, with all the
members present. Minutes of last
meeting were read and, approved.
Corn. from Lieut. -Col. Brown from
headquarters, military district at Lon-
don, asking the Council for their assist-
ance and co-operation in bringing the
different units, now quartered in West-
ern Ontario, up to full strength, received
and filed.
R. Harrison was present and asked
for compensation to the amount of
$12.00 for a sheep destroyed by dogs
lately. The claim was laid over till
the next meeting.
Three dollars was ordered to be re-
funded R. Coultis, being refund error in
dog tax.
Messrs. Cole and Johnston addressed
the Council, claiming an injustice had
been done to them by the Council of
late, having.placed three culverts on 1,
road opp. lot 40, con 9, and threatening'.
to take legal proceedings against the
municipality if injury was done their
respective properties through the put-
ting in of these culverts.
The Reeve poured' oil on the troubled
waters by suggesting, as a remedy,
that if the parties mentioned were not
satisfied with the culverts being put in
that a reconsideration of former awards,
under the D & W Act, affecting these
same properties would perhaps be a
satisfactory solution to the matter.
The Reeve also informed a delegation
of ladies present on behalf of the Bel -
grave branch af the Red Cross Society
what preceedure to take so that they
could participate in the amount of
money, granted by the County Council
at their last meeting, $5000.00 being
set aside for Red Cross purposes, this
amount to be divided among the different
municipalities according to the last
equalized assessment.
On motion of Buchanan and McGowan
the treasurer•was authorized to prepare
200 copies of financial statement and
also that the Collector be given time'
till' Feb. lst, 1917, to return his roll for.
the balance of taxes remaining as yet
unpaid.
A large number of accounts which
will appear in the financial statement
shortly were ordered to be paid when
the Council adjourned.
A. PORTERFIELD, Clerk.
