Tykes defeat
shorthanded
Zurich team
On Saturday, Jan. 15 the Seaforth
Tykes travelled to Zurich. When the
team got thiee miles east of Zurich
the driving became absolutely
treacherous. However, when
Seaforth finally reached the arena
Zurich had only about half of their
normal team show up. But, they
scrounged up a team at the last
minute with some Mite players and
the game began.
The scoresheet was left behind at
the arena, however the scoresheet
didn't matter it was Seaforth's turn
to storm Zurich as they defeated
them 15-1.
The Tykes displayed a fine team
effort. In front of the solid
goaltending of Matthew Dalton the
forwards comprising of Tyler
Elligsen, David Verbeme, Matthew
Camochan, Bradley Henderson,
Brendan Murray and Callahan
O'Reilly were at their sizzling best.
Adam Broome and McKenzie
Fisher potted two of the prettier
goals. Brittany Williams narrowly
missed a couple of golden oppor-
tunities, while Seaforth has found a
new weapon for its arsenal in the
form of Steven Medds' slapshot.
After a short stay at the Zurich
hotel everyone it home safely. One
of the players summed it up pretty
well as he wanted to add his piece
to this writeup:
"Just before the game by the time
the parents got 31/2 miles from
Zurich it got stormy! and stormyer
until there was a whiteout!"
The Tykes next game is Saturday,
Jan. 22 at 10 a.m.

Midget boys
have first game
BY ERIC JOHNSTON
The Seaforth District High School
Midget boys basketball team had
their first real game experience in a
tournament last Saturday. The boys
didn't win much but they had fun,
learned a lot and showed much
improvement. They were excellent
to watch and provided many
entertaining situations when they
(like all midget team at one time or
another) forgot which way they
were going and shot on their own
net. As for teamwork, the boys
were amazing as the distribution of
points proves. Good work boys.

The Sizzlers added three more in
the second period while keeping
Goderich off the scoreboard. Becky
deVries scored Seaforth's fourth
goal, assisted by Jenny DelVecchio,
Jenny scored the fifth, assisted by
Christie Medd and Becky deVries
and Kim Devereaux scored the final
goal, assisted by Lori McKay in
this 6-0 victory over Goderich.
On Saturday, Jan. 15, the Sizzlers
travelled to Stratford for a 1 p.m.
game and returned home just ahead
of the storm. The Sizzlers led the
game 2-1 at the end of the first half
on goals scored by Kim Deveraux
and Jenny DelVecchio. Stratford
carne on strong in the second and
scored early to tie the game but the
Sizzlers put their sconng machine
into operation and scored five unan-
swered goals - two netted by Kim
Deveraux, two by-Jeaneue Crowley
and one by Jenny DelVecchio -
before allowing Stratford to score
their third. Assists on these goals
were awarded to Becky deVries (3),
Marsha Denys (2), Katie Holland
and Lori McKay. Lori McKay
popped one in the net with only six
seconds left in the game to give
Seaforth an 8-3 victory.
On Sunday the Seaforth squad
drove to Dorchester for an exhibi-
tion game and defeated WORL
rivals 10-5. The Dorchester team
gave the Sizzlers a much stronger
game than the score suggests. Goals
in this game were scored by Jenny
DelVecchio (3), Kim Deveraux (2),
Lori McKay (2), Jessica Finlayson,
Ali Devereaux, and Marsha Denys.
The number of assists awarded in
this game - one to Katie Holland
and one to Kim Devereaux, did not
,reflect the excellent passing that the
girls did in this game.
