Organized by Dawn Smith with the help of Brittany Dunlop, Susan Lebeau and countless volunteers, the Strawberry Social was a lovely afternoon of sunshine and sweet treats. "When people are ready to retire, they may have been here quite a few times, where this just feels like home," Lebeau explained on how open Goder- ich Place and their events are to the general public and to family members of current residents. "This is a rocking place, they are always coming up with some- thing to do:' The fundraising event was comprised of a $5 entry fee, which included six different samples of desserts to taste. Each participant was also served strawberry tea while they tasted the six samples, then on a ballot card, voted on which dessert was their favourite. Once the participants had tried each dessert, volunteers collected the ballots and tal- Iled the votes with a result of 21 votes for Thyme on 21's Strawberry Swirl Cheesecake as the favourite; Goderich Place's Strawberry Creampuff was a close second. The funds raised from the event were donated to the Huron Residential Hospice, and with over 80 participants in the afternoon' event, a total of $500 was raised. "We want everyone to enjoy themselves, and it's all about giving back to the community," said Lebeau. When announcing how much money was raised for the Huron Hospice, Susan Lebeau, Sales and Marketing for Goderich Place, announced that Goderich Place would match the amount initially raised. The Huron Hospice $1, 000 A Day Campaign is try- ing to raise $1, 000 each day, and the event last week at Goderich Place was able to contribute a donation of $1, 000 to help fund the Resi- dential Hospice. Last week, Goderich Place hosted an event, Strawberry Social, to entertain the residents of Goderich Place and to raise money for the Huron Residential Hospice. "It is amazing what our community can accomplish with a little cooperation and creative thinking. The Straw- berry Social at Goderich Place is a fantastic example of how groups can come together to make a big contribution, and hopefully this will inspire oth- ers to think about how to help our cause," said Jay McFarlan, Vice -Chair of I luron Residen- tial Hospice. "Many thanks to Goderich Place for organizing the event and matching the funds." Those who took part in the Strawberry Social at Goderich Place, were served strawberry tea to accompany their six samples of dessert.
