HomeMy WebLinkAboutGoderich Signal Star, 2017-06-28, Page 1212 Signal Star • Wednesday, June 28, 2017 Victim Services Huron County receives $3, 000 Dangerous driver back at it Donation from Ar NextEra Energy Canada Victim Services of Huron County will continue providing "go kits" filled with safety supplies, due to the support of a $3,000 donation from NextEra Energy Canada. The funding was announced on Thursday, June 15, 2017. These kits will aid front line volunteers with necessary supplies to help victims of crime and their families in all types -of tragic circumstances. The donation will fully fund 60 kits, which is a one-year supply. "The donation will be put towards the purchase of items that stock our volunteers "go kits': Basi- cally anything a volunteer may require to assist with supporting a victim. Less than two weeks ago the accused was released from court with conditions to not be in the driver's seat of a motor vehi- cle and to not drive a motor vehicle. So much for that, just after 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 20, 2017 Huron County Ontario Pro- vincial Police (OPP) officers observed the accused and two passengers get into a Chevrolet Monte Carlo that was parked on Hamilton Street in Goderich. The vehicle quickly pulled away with the accused driving. Officers followed the vehicle northbound on Victoria Street and watched as the accused passed a line of vehicles that were stopped waiting for south- bound traffic. The dangerous driver sped through an active construction zone at the bridge located at the north end of Goderich. The driver then dangerously roared by the flagman that was trying to stop the flow of north- bound traffic and proceeded to travel into the oncoming lane of traffic. The OPP officer attempted to stop the motor vehicle however the driver sped away from police and was last seen travelling onto Safford Road. Earlier this morning an OPP officer spotted the male shop- ping in Wingham. He was placed under arrest and taken into cus- todywithout incident. A man of 23 years of age from South Bruce has been charged with Dangerous Driving, Flight While Pursued by Peace Officer, Fail to Comply with Recogni- zance and Drive While Under Suspension. He was held in custody for a court appearance at the Ontario Court of justice in Goderich. Huron County CAO to move on Brenda Orchard's to leave Huron County Council Kathleen Smith Goderich Signal Star At Huron County Council's Com- mittee of the Whole, Day Two meeting last week, the meeting adjourned on a rather bittersweet moment. Current Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) Brenda Orchard announced that she would be leav- ing Huron County Council, effec- tive August 3. Providing reasons for leaving, stating personal terms, Brenda Orchard will be leaving Huron County and moving to Eastern -Ontario. It was suggested a Transition Hiring Committee be formed, to find a replacement for Brenda Orchard and to make the transition period as seamless as possible.
