According to weather statistics on weathernetwork.com and Envi- ronment Canada, the greatest rain- fall in the last thirty years in Goder- ich happened in June 1997, with a total of 62mm of precipitation for the entire month. letter to the editor One year later Dear Editor, We are coming up to one year since the Goderich Trotting Asso- ciation, was pushed out of their life long home by Goderich Town Council. No extensions allowed because there was a "plan': And for what? Last week Goderich received a heavy amount of rainfall and on June 22 alone, the total precipita- tion of that day had reached 60.5mm, with another 34.5mm on June 23. That is close to four inches of precipitation over two days. Considering that in one day this month, records of rainfall in Goderich were close to surpassing a month's amount of precipitation, it is no wonder that river levels are rising and fields are flooding. Despite the heavy rainfall in Goderich, the amount of flooding did not reach a critical stage, as it was in many parts of Midwestern Ontario last week, which resulted in road closures. Nothing. Have you notice the improvements at Agricultural Park? In my opinion, it is in a state of disarray, the grass and weeds growing up through the racetrack. If the Goderich Trotting Associa- tion were still there, this would not "They had about four inches of rain through Thursday night, which caused some flooding and as the day went on, some trailers had to be moved as the water kept rising. I know some decks have shifted and some items have washed away. A few trailers have water damage," explained Kimberly Ritchie, who has a trailer at Shelter Valley Campground. Based off the statistics from Envi- ronment Canada and The Weather Network, and from seeing the dam- age done by rising water levels, it is safe to conclude that June has been quite a wet month. It is time to bring on the sunshine and heat and enjoy the lake at the beach, rather than the lakes on our lawns. be happening. Another bonus to the taxpayer, REVENUE, gone, and what about the dryness of summer when Mother Nature's breezes causes dust from the racetrack to enter the neighbours' windows? If the Goderich Trotting 4 t Y1: -A IL r" Photo courtesy of Rudy Smith Goderich Beach had areas flooded due to high levels of precipitation. Association was there, they would take care of that. Now, you the tax- payer will. Thanks Goderich Town Council for another stupid decision. Michelle Gaynor Taxpayer Goderich, Ontario LETTERS TO THE EDITOR Signal Star welcomes letters to the editor.
