Culbert Surveying
Peewees narrowly miss
swatting Skeeters
On Monday, June 12, the Ag
Park fastball diamond was
treated to._onc of the most
highly competitive Peewee
Girl's fastball games to date as
the North Middlesex _Skeeters
escaped from Canada's Pretti-
est Town with a closely con-
tested 4-3 win.
The Skeeters opened the scor-
ing in the top of the first grab-
bing a quick 1-0 lead off starter
Brianna Maclay.
The middle infield duo of
Jamie Archambault and Janelle
Ditner made a great play at sec-
ond sandwiched between a pair
of Maclay strikeouts.
The locals faced a huge chal-
lenge in this one facing a very
good pitcher, and, the Parkhill
fireballer did not disappoint
striking out 17 Goderich hitters
on the night.
'Ibis was a classic mound dual
as Maclay also struck out 10 as
the game remained 1-0 until the
final inning.
The Goderich defence con-
tinued to be fantastic in this
game with several key double
plays. The third inning saw
Grace Taylor expertly snag a
line drive at short, and, give the
easy toss to Abby Archambault
at third.
The fifth inning had Zoe Milne
make a great fly ball catch, and,
immediately double up the visit-
ing runner at second with a great
throw to Bella Moore. Also play-
ing a solid game defensively at
third was Emily Hartin.
At the plate, the Seahawks did
not have a base runner until the
fourth inning when Jaimy Lang-
ille delivered her first of two hits
on the night.
Katie Ridsdale had a single in
the fifth, but, was left stranded at
third base keeping the high-
powered Seahawks scoreless. In
the final inning, the Skeeters
grabbed a 4-0 lead scoring three
unearned runs.
The Seahawks could have
easily given up, but Ava
Fitzgerald laid down a perfect
bunt single followed immedi-
ately by a home run by Maclay
to help her cause.
Grace Taylor was then plated
on an RBI single by Hannah
Kent. Things became very
interesting after Langille
moved Kent to second with
another base hit, but, the Sea -
hawk late rally ended with the
winning run on first leaving the
locals with a 2-2 record in the
competitive Huron Perth West
Division.
Bruinsma Excavating Mite
Girls energetic at G.P.S.
With girl's fastball gaining
in popularity in, and, around
our community, the Sea -
hawk U10's played their first
game on the newly refur-
bished Goderich Public
School diamond on Satur-
day, June 10.
One local parent said,
"This is a good venue for this
age group, and, there is so
much for the other kids to
safely do while the game is
going on."
This year's Bruinsma Mite
team will be the youngest in
the Huron Perth Fastball
League as they field an
entire team of under aged
players competing against
some well established
programs.
Team Manager, Haley
Stoll, mentioned, "Hope-.
fully, everyone is patient
with this young group
because they are so young
and new to the game. Our
goal is to develop Team and
individual skills, and, to
have fun."
The Seaforth Wolverines
were the visitors on this home
opener with Goderich send-
ing Danika Dykstra to the
mound doing a great job of
throwing strikes in her inning
of work.
In the home half of the first,
Sophie Caldwell and Taylor
Vanderburgh were awesome at
getting on base setting the
table for an RBI single from
Addison Blake.
Alyssa Hakkers, Aven
Dykstra, and, Mackinley
O'Brien did a fantastic job of
using their speed on the base
paths.
Young catcher, Karsyn McI-
nally, did an expert job behind
the plate helping young wind -
miller, Grace Stoll, get the job
done.
Cassie Colquhoun, and,
Alice Bosch provided some
offensive spark for the Sea-
hawks with a pair of awe-
some hits through the
infield.
On Tuesday, June 13, the
sunflower seeds were flying
again at GPS as the Seahawks
played host to the Skeeters
from Parkhill. Karsyn McInally
did a solid job of working
through a solid Parkhill batting
order.
Molly Allan put the Sea -
hawks in flight with a tremen-
dous base hit through the left
side of the helpless Skeeter
infield.
The young Seahawks really
seemed to enjoy the art of
stealing bases, but had to really
focus against a very good
Parkhill catcher.
Cassie Colquhoun did an
awesome job of pitching for
the Seahawks limiting the
Parkhill batters in her inning
of work.
Coach Mike Bosch was
impressed with his club's effort:
"We know we're in tough against
some good teams, but, our girls
have shown some great
improvement in the past
month."
Be sure to come out to
GPS on June 20 as the Mite's
host the Seaforth Wolverines
once again. Game time is
6:15 pm, and seating is
limited.
