HomeMy WebLinkAboutGoderich Signal Star, 2017-06-21, Page 5252 Signal Star • Wednesday, June 21, 2017 532 Squadron from the 39th Annual Ceremonial Review. 39th Annual Ceremonial Review Maitland Royal ir Canadian Air Cadet Squadron celebrate The 532 Maitland Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squad- ron (RCACS) held their 39th Annual Ceremonial Review (ACR) with Mr. Dennis Schmidt, President of R.C.L. Branch 109, presiding as the Reviewing Officer. The ACR is a traditional military style parade where the Cadets present their best pressed uniforms, well shone boots, synchronized marching drills, and a collec- tion of displays to highlight their activities and memo- ries from the past year. The Parade Commander was Warrant Officer Second Class Eugenia Pentland and the superb parade music was provided by the 44 Imperial Bethel Pentecostal Assembly Vacation Bible School July 10th - 14th, 2017 9 a.m. -12 noon 321 Bayfield Rd. "We have had another very successful year," according to Captain Ryan McClinchey, Commanding Officer of Maitland Squadron. "This parade signifies the achievements of all the Cadets on parade over the one to six years of service you have dedicated to the Squadron. As seven of this year's senior Cadets move on to their post -secondary endeavors, we know the Air Cadet Program has well equipped you with the con- fidence and experience you will need to be successful. Best of luck to you all, you leave some big boots to fill. For the rest of our Cadets, you will have many great opportunities to lead our Squadron into our 40th Sea- son this fall." A total of 13 awards were presented at this year's ACR. These included: The Lord Strathcona Medal, presented to Sgt Alex Rodrigues; The Royal Cana- dian Legion Cadet Medal for Excellence, presented to WO2 Eugenia Pentland; The Richard Livesey Memorial Award for Dedica- tion, presented to FSgt James Murray; and The Patrick King Memorial Award for Personal Growth, presented to FSgt Amy Meier. To finish the year off, the Squadron spent the week- end in Niagara -on -the -Lake and Niagara Falls where the Sunday Band Concert 7-8:30pm Lions' Harbour Park, 168 West Street, Goderich, ON Bring your lawn chair or blanket to beautiful Harbour Park every Sunday evening throughout the summer and enjoy a variety of live bands as you watch the sun go down. Cadets attended an over- night live-in experience at Fort George, learning about the era of the War of 1812, and enjoyed some down time on Clifton Hill. For Air Cadets, the season does not end with the ACR. Many Cadets will spend 2 to 7 weeks away at various Summer Training Centres across Ontario where they attend a wide variety of sum- mer training opportunities available to all Cadets. "In September, Maitland Squadron will be starting our 40th year. Over the years we have been gener- ously sponsored by the Goderich Rotary Club, and now R.C.L. Branch 109. For our 40th year, I have a goal of parading 40 Cadets on our ACR in 2018, " says McClinchey. We are also looking for adults who have interests in teaching, aviation, military history, sports, etc. who are looking for a rewarding volunteer opportunity.
