Local businesses sponsored a letter for $250, to spell out `Cancer Changes Everything'
with illuminated bags.
Relay for Life
CONTINUED FROM > PAGE 3
From the ten teams involved in Relay
for Life, everybody pays a $15 registra-
tion fee, and they are asked to raise
$150.
"We have Paws for the Cause that
raised over $4, 000 and Propane Power
that raised over $2, 500. So we have
some big teams here tonight, but at the
same time every dollar counts," said
Laura.
"With our Wheels for 1 lope transpor-
tation program, where we have drivers
who take people to and from cancer
related appointments, we don't pay
those drivers, but we reimburse them
mileage. The average cost to go from
here to London and back is about $50.
So when someone gives a donation, of
$25 or $50 that makes it possible for
someone who needs a ride to treatment,
for a program like that to exist."
Relay for Life and Wheels of Hope
helped 143 families in this area, get to
over 1, 700 appointments last year.
The money raised does not only go
towards cancer research but also
towards all mission work such as advo-
cacy, prevention, cancer informational
specialists, peer-to-peer matching and
online forums of community support.
"Cancer rates are expected to raise by
40 percent in the next 15 years, so that
means more and more friends and

or to honour those still fighting or who
have won the struggle in the fight against
cancer.
family are going to hear the words 'you
have cancer;' said Laura.
"So the money we raise today, is
going to maybe save a family member
tomorrow," Laura said.
This fall a campaign 'Pigs of Hope'
will allow people to adopt the piggy
banks and feed it a diet of spare change
for a month, which all proceeds will go
towards Wheels of Hope.
