In 1967, The Ontario I lis-
torical Society (OHS) estab-
lished an awards program to
recognize individuals,
organizations, corporations,
and authors who have con-
tributed significantly to the
preservation and promotion
of Ontario's heritage.
The Carnochan Award
recognizes an individual
who has contributed many
years of service to the herit-
age community. The OIHS is
pleased to announce that
Paul Carroll is one of two
recipients of the 2016 Carno-
chan Award.
The Ontario Historical
Society's Carnochan Award
honours, "an individual who
has contributed many years
of service to the heritage
community." This year the
society is pleased to recog-
nize Paul Carroll of
. Goderich.
"Just to be nominated for
such an award is humbling,
but to be selected is truly an
honour. I wish to express
personal thanks to my nomi-
nator, Barry Penhale and to
those who submitted letters
on my behalf," said Carroll.
"I want to express my
appreciation to the selection
committee and t� 011S for its
ongoing provision of the
Honours and Awards
Program."
Paul Carroll is an artist,
author, educator, heritage
advocate, sailor, and a mem-
ber of a three -generation
Lake Huron waterfront
family.
I Ie has served his commu-
nity as a town officer, as a
teacher, principal and super-
intendent of education, and
in heritage capacities such
as President of the Huron
County I iistorical Society.
One reviewer has said of
him: "Paul Carroll has con-
sistently worked as an activ-
ist for heritage preservation
on multiple fronts and lev-
els... [He] was a visionary
who always diligently
worked to gain input and
partnership from various
sectors within the commu-
nity to create successful
outcomes. For decades, as
an educator, historian, poli-
tician, tvritcr and active
con)n)unity member, Paul
has effectively used a multi-
faceted and outward
approach.
For his many years of out-
standing service to the herit-
age community and his pas-
sion, dedication, and
commitment especially to
the priceless marine heritage
along the Huron County.

in heritage activity and pres-
ervation is now approaching
some 50 years. My first major
involvement was to stand,
alone, in .aCounty Council
Chamber, as the then -
youngest Reeve in Ontario,
to speak against my County
peers, whose collective
intent was to demolish part
of what is now the only.des-
ignated Federal Historic Site
in Huron County," Carroll
said.

give rise to broader support,
and the issue of the day can
be won. There is often con-
flict about what is important
to preserve and to celebrate
our heritage. But we must
not shy away from it. Some-
times you will prevail. Other
tirnes, you will fail. But you
will never regret that you
have tried."
The award was presented
at the Annual General Meet-
ing of the Ontario I Iistorical
Society at the York University
Senate Chambers in
Toronto, Ontario.

Meeting. [ Please return the attached HDC Member Requisition form asap.]
Made under section 79 of the Ontario Co -Operatives Corporations Act.
Purpose of the member only general meeting:
1. To discuss and vote on a motion of Non Confidence of the ten (10) existing Board of Directors
and to terminate their tenure as Directors of HDC immediately.
2. To present new Director candidates to the members and vote on a motion to elect up to
ten (10) new HDC Member Directors to fill the vacancies and the term left by each existing
Director immediately if point 1. is approved.
Location of meeting: Likely to be determined by the present HDC Board of Directors as per the
Ontario Co -Operative Corporations Act. •
Date of Meeting: My suggestion to the board is a Wednesday or Thursday night in July, 2017 7:30,
but the specific date is likely to be determined by the HDC Board of Directors as per the Ontario
Co -Operative Corporations Act.
A Hensall District Cooperative, Incorporated Member Requisition Form is also attached on this
page to petition the HDC Board of Directors to call a members' only meeting concerning only the
agenda items on the notice of meeting.
It is very important that the attached Requisition Form be completed, cut out and forwarded
to Earl Wagner asap. It is only after I forward the minimum number of requisitions to the Board
of Directors that they will be required to call the Members Meeting as required by the Ontario
Co -Operative Corporations Act.
