New staff join ABCA planning, regulations department
Daniel King is new Regulations

Ausable Hayfield Conser-
vation Authority (ABCA) has
announced that it has hired
Daniel King as the new Reg-
ulations Coordinator and it
is promoting Meghan Tydd-
1-irynyk to the position of
Planning and Regulations
Officer.
".Ihe planning and regula-
tions program plays an
•important role protecting life
and property from natural
hazards and we believe
these two staff members will
be wonderful assets in their
'important roles in that
work," said Geoffrey Cade,
ABCA's Water and Planning
Supervisor. .
Daniel King has a Bache-
lor of Environmental Engi-
neering from the University
of Waterloo with a Water
Resources Option. He com-
pleted a Master of Engineer-
ing and Public Policy at
McMaster university. He
also has experience
presenting to municipal
_decision makers as a finalist
in the Cities of tomorrow
competition hosted by the
Large Urban Mayor's Caucus
of Ontario.
"Daniel will be a valuable
addition to this department,"
said Cade. "Daniel brings
with him a great deal of
knowledge and interper-
sonal skills which will be
great assets as he works
closely with local property
owners to respond •to
requests for permits:'
King has held positions at
engineering consulting firms
throughout Ontario and
British Columbia. This has
fostered in him a strong set
of skills communicating sci-
ence and engineering to cli-
ents in a variety of industries
and the public sector. The
new Regulations Coordina-
tor said he is pleased to be in
this new role. He said his

for Monday Men's Night at
The Maitland. The guys had
a great night, and we had
many winners in our midst.
Leighton Lynch and

net, with a score of 30.
Tom Smith walked away
with First low gross, with a
score of 39.
Closest to the pin on
hole #1 went to Denis Las -
saline, while Second low
gross was another tie
between Scott Feagan and
The Maitland's own Jarrett
Smith, with a score of 40.

Maitland Senior Men's
Golf League, June 6:
Cool conditions ham-
peredsomebuta few of the
men in the Maitland Senior
Men's Golf League seemed
to thrive in the unseasona-
ble weather.
Foremost among these
hardy individuals was
Frank Young who led 'B'
Flight with 46, net 37 and
won both the Rona prize
for longest put on #4 and
the MicroAge Basics prize
for closest to the pin on #7.
In 'C' Flight George
Reeves posted his best ever
Maitland round of 42, net
31.9 to sweep the flight
honours.
Bill Tranter had a simi-
larly exceptional day
shooting 44, net 31.6 to
dominate 'D' Flight as did
Mike O'Brien whose 48, net
34.7 easily bested his 'E'
Flight rivals.
The 'A' Flighters strug-
gled. The best they could
do was 42 by Chris Connor
and a net 40.2 by Joe
George. It wasn't the best
day in 'F' Flight either but
Bob Glenn came out on top
with a score of 58, net 40.4.
Other than Frank Young,
the other winners of the
shot -making prizes were
Bill Barwick, winner of the
State Farm closest to the
pin on #1, Chris Connor,
the Toyota longest putt on
#3, Brian Good, the
Edward Fuels longest putt
on #8 and Rob Bush, the
Tim I Iorton's double/dou-
ble prize winner.

has also announced that
Meghan Tydd-llrynyk, for-
•merly the Planning and Reg-
ulations Assistant, has been
named Planning and Regu-
lations Officer.
"Ever since Meghan came
to us from Conservation 1 Tal-
ton she has become some-
one upon whom we rely as a
major asset to this program
and we are pleased to
announce that she is taking a
more significant role as
Planning and Regulations
Officer," said Cade.
She graduated in 2007
from the Geographic Infor-
mation System (GIS) and
Urban Planning.program at
Fanshawe College. Prior to

joining Ausable Bayfield
Conservation in 2015, she
worked at Central Lake
Ontario Conservation
Authority (CLOCA) and
Conservation Ilalton.
She said her previous work
as a GIS and Cartographic
Specialist is helpful in her new
role as "it gives me the ability
to understand the mapping
and to provide valuable infor-
mation and to respond effec-
tively to questions:'
The conservation author-
ity mandate includes pre-
vention of loss of life and
property damage from natu-
ral hazards such as flooding
and erosion. It accomplishes
this through programs,
including planning and reg-
, ulations, supported by the
Conservation Authorities Act
and Ontario Regulation
147/06 (the Regulation of
Development, Interference
with Wetlands and Altera-
tions to Shorelines and
Watercourses).
ABCA invites anyone who
requires a permit through
the conservation authority to

mitting process.
6th Annual Huron County Warden's Charity Golf Tournament
The 6th Annual Huron
County Warden's Charity
Golf Tournament is on Fri-
day, July 14.
The tournament is a shot-
gun start at 1pm followed
by dinner.

From the support of
those who will attend the
2017 Charity golf tourna-
ment, funds will be raised
for Huron Residential Hos-
pice, a local four bed resi-
dential hospice to be
opened in 2018.
There will be free access
to the driving range before
the shotgun start, but par-
ticipants are asked to be at
assigned tee block ten min-
utes before the horn
sounds.
In a 'knock out scram-
ble' or 'best ball' style, all
the golfers in the group tee
off and one ball location is
selected to be the next
shot for the entire team.
Two drives from each
golfer must be used
throughout the
tournament.
It is recommended that
ladies tee off from the red
tee blocks, men to tee off
from the blue tee blocks,
but to use the tee block
you are most comfortable
with.
The price per individual
is $125.00, $500.00 per four-
some and $30 per person
Junior Flyers name new head coach

The Goderich Orr Insur-
ance Flyers of the Provincial
Junior Hockey League have a
new head coach.
Chris Corbett, 28, of
Brussels, will take over the
position vacated when
David Errington voluntar-
ily stepped down at the
end of last season to
assume another position
on the team's executive
board.
Corbett was an assistant
coach with the Wingham
Ironmen last season and has
lots of experience in junior
hockey.
He started his own Junior
playing career playing with
the Ironmen where he won
the rookie of the year award.
After that, he attended an
OHL camp and played the
next three seasons with the
Junior "B" Listowel
Cyclones -before returning
to captain the Ironmen in
his final year of junior
eligibility.
His coaching experience
also includes coaching
midget hockey in the Blyth -
Brussels minor hockey
system
Flyer's General Manager
Dan Kerr reports that
although it was a long pro-
cess, the Flyers feel they have
the right person for the task
of trying to lead the team out
of the PJHL Pollock Division
cellar.
To that end, the Flyers
have also established a new
working relationship with
for the dinner only.
The fee includes the
round of golf, a cart rental,
lunch provided with regis-
tration until the shotgun
start at 1pm, a buffet dinner
at 5pm, and a donation to
the Huron Residential
Hospice.
Registration deadline to
the charity golf tournament
is Wednesday, June 21,
2017.

The relationship is
described as a "win-win' sit-
uation for both teams. It will
give the Flyers a new poten-
tial source of players while
giving the Flyer's players an
opportunity to advance their
playing careers to the next
level.
The Flyers tryout camp is
scheduled to begin on Sat-
urday, August 12 at 1 pm at
the Maitland Recreation
Centre.
