2019 Ontario Heritage Conference 30th Anniversary for Law Enforcement Torch Run
Request for
conference to
be hosted by
Goderich
Kathleen Smith
Goderich Signal Star
It was proposed at last
week's Town Council meet-
ing that the 2019 Ontario
Heritage Conference should
be hosted in Goderich.
Bill Menzel spoke to
Council last week on behalf
of the Municipal and Marine
Heritage Committee
(MMHC), suggesting that
Goderich host the
Conference.
The Ontario Heritage Con-
ference promotes the herit-
age features of the town that
is hosting that particular
year.
"The Ontario Heritage
Conference is one that hap-
pens on a yearly basis. This
year it is in Ottawa, next year
will be in Soult Saint Marie.
It is a conference for those in
Ontario who are interested
in heritage, and usually
somewhere between 200
and 25() attend the confer-
ence. rlhe idea is to promote
the heritage features of the
towns and districts that the
conference is in," said Hill
Menzel.
According to Menzel, the
Heritage Trust would
develop the program for
the 2019 Conference, but
would need the Council's
support and approval for
the Conference to be
in Goderich.
In addition, the MMFIC
and Town Council would
work with and assist the Her,
itage Trust develop:an
appropriate program, that
would touch upon heritage
features for Goderich and
surrounding areas for the
Conference. •
A motion was passed by
Council to approve the
request to support the
Municipal and Marine Herit-
age Committee with plan-
ning for the 2019
Conference.
The request from the •
MMHC for $2500 to help
fund the program was
deferred until next years
budget, seeing as the confer-
ence will not occur until
2019.
