ON ,j'IlDIi Di ibiti 1T l 1f s'Is111 2017 Summer Company participants With summer jobs for youth increasingly difficult to find, six young entrepreneurs from Huron County between the ages of 15 to 29, have taken matters into their own hands and are operating their own businesses this season. The students will receive finan- cial assistance from the Summer Company, a provincial youth - entrepreneurship program funded by the Ministry of Economic Devel- opment and Growth. Matthew Ballagh (519-357-7450) will be operating "On Track Stu- dios" from his home studio just outside Wingham. Matthew will offer recording ser- vices to individuals and companies looking to record or create single tracks, albums, jingles or anything. Cam Beckett (226-237-5179) will be operating "CreativeWood- WorksCo" out of his home wood shop in Exeter. Cam will be creating industrial furniture and household items from reclaimed wood. He will be taking custom orders for every- thing from bookends to desks. Shelby Farquhar (519-441-3634) will be operating "Garden Gurus". Shelby will be providing garden creation, maintenance and recov- ery services in Clinton and around Huron County. She plans to assess, implement and develop a plan according to each cli- ent's budget and requirements. Jonnie Lavis (519-440-7849) will be operating "Rustic Creations" out of Holmseville. Jonnie will provide Canadian flag rustic signs in hon- our of Canada's 150th anniversary. 2017 Summer Company participants Greg McDonald (519-524-0889) will be operating "GM Yard Service" Greg will be offering high quality, low cost lawn maintenance in Blyth. Kleinton Saunders (519-955- 0976) will be operating "Kleinton's Woodwork" Kleinton will be selling unique wooden household items such as cutting boards, serving trays, and coasters. Currently in its 17th year, the Summer Company program aims to inspire more young people to choose entrepreneurship as a career and to equip them with the tools they need to succeed. The Ministry is granting over 400 Summer Company awards this year, and we're pleased that Huron County won six of them, reported Nicki Darbyson, Business Consult- ant at the. Huron Business Centre in Goderich. a Designed for students aged 15-29 who will be going back to school in the fall, this program pro- vides for up to $1,500 toward start- up costs, and upon successful com- pletion of the program requirements, the student is eligi- ble for an additional award of up to $1,500. Each student submitted a com- prehensive business plan with their application by May 7th, and partic- ipated in an interview process. Training and workshops will be provided by Nicki Darbyson, Pro- gram Manager and Business Con- sultant at the Small Business Cen- tre, County of Huron. Students will also be in regular communication with a volunteer group of community mentors, who will assist with the management side of operating a business. Over 80 milligrams charge laid (HURON EAST, ON) - A 62 -year- old from Seaforth is facing a crimi- nal charge of Drive Motor Vehicle With Over 80 Milligrams of Alcohol following her arrest. On Saturday, June 3, 2017 Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers received informa- tion about a possible impaired driver in Seaforth. Just before 5:30 p.m. a Huron officer spotted the suspect vehicle, a Mercedes Smart car at the intersection of Chalk Street and Duke Street. Upon stopping the vehicle and speaking with the female driver the investigating officer detected the odour of alcohol on the driver's breath. As a result, a roadside -screen- ing test was completed and the driver registered a Fail. The driver was placed under arrest and was transported to the Huron OPP Detachment for breath tests. She later provided two samples of her breath to a qualified intoxilizer technician; both of her samples registered over the legal limit. As a result, the driver, a 62 year- old woman from Huron East has been charged with Drive Motor With Over 80 Milligrams of Alcohol. She has since been released from custody with a court date sched- uled for July 10, 2017 at the Ontario Court of Justice - Goderich. She has also received an auto- matic 90 -day driver's licence sus- pension and her motor vehicle was impounded for seven days.
