Goderich Legion hosted a
fundraiser event at the end of
May for a local cause that
included a barbecue, live and
silent auctions for donated
items, musical entertainment,
drinks and a sense of a strong
community.
The fundraiser was to sup-
port the Hunter Costello.
Memorial Foundation, which
was created in the memory of
Catherine and Ken Costello's

with cancer.
Through the support and
generosity of friends, part-
ners, donors, family, volun-
teers for the event and the
community, the event was a
success.
The Goderich Legion, the
Bunter Costello Memorial
Foundation and the Costello
family met last week at the
Legion for a presentation of
the monies raised from the
event.
"It means a lot, helping
people out. John, Paul and
Harold and I decided to do
something for the Costello
family and we sure appreci-
ated what the town had
donated for the silent auc-
tion. We are always willing to
help people out," stated
Norm Leddy.
The fundraiser exceeded
the goal of $10, 000 and last
week Legion Fundraiser
Chair Norm Leddy, accom-
panied by Legion members
John Hoy and Paul Thorne,
presented a cheque of $11,
500 to the Memorial
Foundation.
"If you look at our motto
'servicing veterans and com-
munity; this is part of our
community outreach pro-
gram. It shows the town that
we are a service organization
and not just a veterans group,"

This goal will become a
reality due to the support of
' the community.
As of yet, there is no pro-
jected date for the construc-
tion of the proposed memo-
rial park, but through raising'
the funds and developing a
plan, the goal is to have it built
in the next couple of years.
"We are .still raising
money, and still talking with
the revitalization committee
about getting a park at the Ag
Park location. We will con-
tinue to fundraise, and this is
a good stepping -stone
towards getting that started,"
said Ken Costello.
