conu 1uniry and to be able to stay
here once they are done their edu-
cation,” explained
Mombourquette.
The presentation provided
information regarding program-
ming, including partnerships
with local employers and com-
munity organizations and how
they hope to meet training needs
in Huron and Bruce
communities.
"For students who are on place-
ments, majority of them are hired
before completion of their pro-
gram. It increases their ability to
remain engaged within their
community," said
MacKenzie -Card.
There are only 150 students
enrolled in all of Huron and
Bruce Counties, yet Fanshawe
has the college education that
allows students to remain close
to home by attending classes at
facilities within their
communities.
Currently Fanshawe offers
full-time programs in Goderich,
Clinton and Tiverton such as
Business Entrepreneurship,
Management, Human
Resources, Project Management
taught by local experts and
teachers. There are also part-
time programs offered in Kin-
cardine, Clinton and Goderich.
"We look for spaces, we lease
those spaces and hire the instruc-
tors to teach. It is all based on
community demand," Mombour-
quette explained on why courses
are offered in certain
communities.
Programs range from Early
Childhood Education to Entre-
preneurship and Management,
from Personal Support Worker to
Electrical and Welding
Techniques.
MacKenzie -Card spoke up on
one of the positive aspects that
she hears in the form of feedback
from many of the students: "Many
students are saying that its close
to home, they don't have to
change their lives to study. They
see the value in that, and they are
able to be connected with local
employers and stay where they
want to be."
Fanshawe also offers general
interest and professional
courses available in Goderich
and Clinton from May until July,
and some of which are Payroll
Administration, Wine Intro,
Summer Whites, BBQ Reds and
Adobe Photoshop.
For those who are interested
in furthering their education in
areas that are not normally ser-
viced by post -secondary educa-
tion, are to contact Heather
MacKenzie -Card at hmacken-
zie-card@fanshawec.ca or by
visiting the website at fan-
