Huron Bruce
cyclists meet
decision
makers
Join Lisa Thompson in a
kick off to Ontario's Fourth
Annual Bike Month as she
Rides the Riding.
Huron Bruce MPP will
join Municipal Councillors
from all over Huron Bruce
along with local cyclists at
the Clinton Spring Fair on
Saturday June 3 at 830 am.
All are welcome to bicy-
cle in a Slow Roll guided
group around the town for
one half hour to experience
the cycling culture of
Clinton.
The April 27 announce-
ment that $50, million in
provincial spending is
being allocated to build
cycling infrastructure as
part of the Climate Action
Plan should spur area
cyclists to act in advocating
for local projects.
This ride is a chance to
connectwith local decision
makers and encourage
cycling development for the
benefit of the community.
Increasing cycling would
have cumulative societal
benefits.
According to the Cana-
dian Medical Association,
"a 10 per cent increase in
physical activity could
reduce direct health-care
expenditures by $150 mil-
lion a year. This does not
include indirect costs such
as lost productivity due to
illness, premature death or
a range of other factors,
including mental illness
and poor quality of life."
Cycling can also help
improve mental health.
Stress management and a
healthy work -life balance
are important factors in
maintaining mental
wellbeing.
According to Ontario's
Ministry of Health and
Long -Term Care, engaging
in physical activities like
cycling can help people
cope with stress, build their
self-confidence and form
supportive friendships.
