After a successful regular
season finishing in second
place, the GDCI senior girls
soccer team advanced to the
Huron -Perth playoffs that
were on May 23.
"On Tuesday we went to
the Huron -Perth Champion-
ships and we lost 1-0 to
Stratford Central. We domi-
nated the first half of the
match but we just cc aldn't
finish," said Coach Ray
Lewis.
"The girls knew they didn't
play well and they had their
own Iittle team meeting and
decided that Thursday
[WOSSAA] was going to be
better. Their goal was to get
to OFSAA."
The Goderich Vikings
advanced to the WOSSAA
semi-final match against
Holy Cross from
Strathroy.
On a rainy Thursday, May.
25, the senior girls competed
against Holy Cross at Ag Park
Field, defeating them 2-0,
both goals scored by Brynn
Lewis.
"We knew that we were in
tough against Holy Cross.
They have a very good side
and are very well coached.
We were obviously worried
about them but we man-
aged to score when we
needed to;" stated Coach
Lewis.
The semi-final victory over
Holy Cross advanced the
Goderich Vikings to the gold
medal match versus Lord
Dorchester.
In a 1pm match last
Thursday at Ag Park Field,
the senior girls soccer team
devastated Lord Dorchester
with a 4-0 victory, earning
the title of WOSSAA
Champions.
"The second match was
rough, but we out -gritted
them and we were fortunate
with some goals. We had
some girls who hadn't
scored in a couple of games
and they all managed to do
really well. And 4-0, we
didn't expect to do that well
in the final," Coach Lewis
explained.
"I was proud of them, they
played really well."

The senior girls soccer
team celebrated their suc-
cessful season and on
earning the WOSSAA
Championship title, but
they now remain focused
and looking ahead to
OFSAA (Provincial Cham-
pionship) held in
Etobicoke.
"We are not sure who all
the seeds are and don't
know who we will play yet. It
looks like we might have the
defending champs in our
pool, which will make it
tough but that's not the
worst-case scenario. When
you get to that level,
everybody is good," stated
Coach Lewis.
"We will meet on Monday
and we will take a look at
who is going in our pool, and
the team will sit down and
make a new goal. If they got
top ten that would be
fantastic."
The OFSAA tournament
will begin Wednesday, May
31 with four matches played
within each pool on
Wednesday and Thursday.
If successful within their
pool, which would require
finishing in the top two,
teams will advance and
compete in medal games
played on Friday, June 2.
