vehicles from County Roads

Presenting to County Council last
week, County Engineer Steve Lund
and Manager of Public Works Mike
Hausser recommended a motion
that Council prohibit off-road vehi-
cles on County Roads.
An issue that was discussed
amongst the members of County
Council regarded those using off-road
vehicles for recreation, trespassing on
farming property.
Although there was some discus-
sion on the difficulty deciphering
between using off-road vehicles for
recreation from those who use the
vehicles for farming reasons, the
Council passed a motion to prohibit
such vehicles from the County Roads.
County Council passed a motion
that would prohibit all off-road vehi-
cles, unless farm vehicles, from using
the County Road network, enforcea-
ble under the I iighway Traffic Act
Ontario Regulation 316/03.
It was recommended that Council
should review existing by-laws within
Huron County in an effort to establish
consistent conditions, requirements
and constraints to improve the
enforceability of this motion.
In the future, Council would`con-
sider the recreational use of off-road
vehicles on County Roads, in the
event that an organized trail net-
work were established, and sections
of the County Roads were connec-
tions to the trail.
Temporary Speed Limit Reductions for IPM
Kathleen Smith

A motion was passed last week at
County Council meeting to tempo-
rarily reduce speed limits on
County Roads adjacent to the
International Plowing Match.
Temporarily reducing the speed
limits on County Roads in the
vicinity to the IPM will provide
safety for the event and staff organ-
izers while they set up the grounds
for the event.
There will be no financial costs to
reduce the speed limits, only labour
to pull the signage from stock, post
the signage and to put back into
stock once IMP has concluded.
A motion for a by-law that will
temporarily reduce the speed limit
between September 4 and Septem-
ber 29, 2017 on County Road 12
and County Road 25 in the vicinity
of the IPM was passed.
To allow for the safety of citizens
and those visiting for the IPM, it is
necessary that the by-law be
enforced, which will be automati-
cally rescinded once the IPM has
come to a conclusion.

Ladies from the Zurich Men-
nonite Church recently travelled
to volunteer with the Reapers of
I lope in Moorefield Ontario.
At this facility, a converted
lumber store operation, donated
produce is accepted that doesn't
meet the criteria for grocery store
shelves.
Produce that is too big, too
small or misshapen, wrong col-
our and many other issues is pro-
cessed and dried to make flakes.
These flakes are packaged into
soup mixes that are shipped
worldwide to feed hungry
people.
