28 years of Friendship Games at GDCI
Even with the weather
being uncooperative for the
town on Friday, May 19,
local high school Goderich
District Collegiate pro-
ceeded to host the most suc-
cessful event indoors for the
second year so far.
The Friendship Games,
formerly known as the Spe-
cial Olympics, hosted a total
of ten different schools to the
event.
The event including ten
schools resulted in roughly
seventy participants in all
age divisions; from primary
elementary students, to sen-
ior high school students.
They participated in
competitive, non-competi-
tive and ongoing fun
activities mapped out
inside the school building,
due to the poor weather
conditions available
outside.
Nonetheless, all volun-
teers and participants wore
big smiles and eager hearts
as they participated indoors.
There were many coordi-
nators, who worked hard
since the beginning of Janu-
ary to plan the event along-
side Administrative Staff
member Janice Shore.
The group of coordinators
consisted of Gwyneth Pella,
Owen Dulong, Kennedy
Thom and Lizzy McDonald.
This year was especially
exciting for the students, as
there were new t -shirt
designs, volunteers were
assigned a new role as moti-
vators and newly created
events brought more excite-
ment to the unsuspecting
participants.
Nothing but fun and
cheers could be seen and
heard at the event, making
the day another successful
and proud time for our local
Vikings.
A big thank you is sent
out to all who participated
in competing, volunteer-
ing and supporting such a
significant and successful
day.
The students at GDCI look
forward to planning the
Friendship Games for many
years to come.
