The GDCI Junior girls'
soccer team finished the
regular season in sixth
place with 11 points,
one point behind St.
Anne's.
The girls lost their final
two games, 2-1 against St.
Anne's with the lone goal
from Sarah S. and 2-0
against Stratford
Northwestern.
In a mini -tournament
style, playoffs were May
23, where the Junior
Girls competed first
against Stratford
Central.
Unfortunately the same
story could not be said for
the Junion Boys' soccer
team who finished the sea-
son in last place.
The Boys lost their final
two games, with quite sim-
ilar outcomes as the Junior
Girls - losing 2-0 versus St.
Anne's and losing 2-1
against Stratford
Northwestern.
The Junior Boys' soccer
team did not make the
playoff round.
The same could be said
about the Senior Boys' soc-
cer team, who also did not
make the playoffs this year,
ending the regular season
in eighth place.
Splitting their last two
games, losing 5-1 against
Listowel and winning 4-1

U14 Seahawks soar in home opener
The Goderich Peewee
girls began their Huron
Perth Fastball League sea-
son on May 15 versus the
Londesborough Legends.
The 2017 edition have many
returning players from last sea-
son, but, also have a nice mix of
new players to the club.
Veteran hurler, Payton
Swan, had a strong outing in
the opener, scattering five
hits over four innings for the
victory.
Swan struck out seven
Legends while not issuing
a walk in her night of work.
Battery mates, Ava
Fitzgerald, Katie Ridsdale,
and, Kate Johnston, did a
good jab behind the plate
for the Seahawks all game.
On the diamond, the
locals benefitted from some
excellent fielding by Jamie

Archambault who calmly
silenced several Londesbor-
ough at bats with throws to
the sure handed Zoe Milne.
The offence exploded in
the first inning, and, never
really stalled the entire
game as the potent Sea -
hawk line up scored con-
sistently with contribu-
tions from everyone.
Brianna Maclay pounded
out a bases loaded triple in
the first to bring home Emily
Hartin, Bela Moore, and,
Archambault.
The top of the order led
by Jaimy Langille, and,
Grace Taylor did a fantastic
job scoring five times in six
total plate appearances.
Other notable efforts in
this opener were the per-
formances of two "new"
players to the game.
Abby Archambault, who
hadn't played in three sea-
sons, did a nice job of put-
ting the bat on the ball
while scoring once.
Hannah Kent, having
never played ball before,
drew two walks, and, did a
great job of hitting the ball
to the right side of the dia-
mond in earning her first
RBI of her career.
Coach, Glen Dither, was
impressed with the open-
ing 20-10 victory but cau-
tioned that there is still
much learning to be done
as the team moves forward
in the season.
The peewees now have
two weeks to practice as
they prepare for their first
stiff test of the season on
May 29 when powerful
Exeter comes to town.

Oh Really O'Reilly?
Ryan O'Reilly and team Canada came away with a 2-1 win
over Germany to advance to the semifinals in the IIHF World
Championships. O'Reilly currently has 6 points, which have
been scored over 8 games for Team Canada. One of which he
scored in the quarter final game against Germany. Team
Canada narrowly escaped a close game by holding onto a 2-1
win over Germany, after Germany scored late in the third
period. Canada blasted an incredible fifty shots on the net in
their last game. However, Philipp Grubauer stood tall for
team Germany making it a challenge for Team Canada to
come away with the win. O'Reilly and team Canada will face
Russia in the semifinals on Saturday at 9:15 pm ET. Russia
beat out Sweden in a close game that was decided in a
shootout.
Ryan O'Reilly has been steadily upping his game as he has
scored three points in the last three games for team Canada.
O'Reilly is currently ranked seventh in team points, tied with
teammate Claude Giroux.
O'Reilly will return to home ice at the Hometown Heroes:
Raise a Little Health Charity Hockey Game on July 20th, 2017
in Goderich Ontario. This game benefits three local health
and wellness organizations: Gateway Centre Of Excellence In
Rural Health, the YMCA
Strong Kids program, and
the Alexandra Marine &
General Hospital. The game,
which is in its fourth year in
our community, aims to
raise $70 000 for local
health initiatives.
Don't miss your chance to
see O'Reilly in action here in
Goderich on Thursday July
20th. Tickets are available at
each of the three organiza-
tions, the Goderich office of
MP Ben Lobb, and online at
www.eventbrite.ca. Tickets
are $10 for adults and $5 for
children under 12.
