Site plan approved for NRStor
Green -energy
Air storage project
to be built in
Goderich
Kathleen Smith
Goderich Signal Star
The site plan for NRStor's
energy storing demonstra-
tion project was approved
last week at Goderich Town
Council meeting.
In a majority vote for the
project, the site plan was
approved for NRStor to build
their facility and technology
on Mill Road, in Goderich.
As an industrial building,
the facility will pay an indus-
trial tax and according to
Town planner Victor Kloeze,
the application by NRStor
was consistent with provin-
cial policies.
At the Town Council meet-
ing, members of NRStor

were in attendance, as well
as a few concerned citizens
of Goderich.
One of the biggest con-
cerns from the opposition
regarded the fact that the
project is very much a pilot
and demonstration project,
and the risks and advantages
are not yet known.
On the opposite side of the
coin, this pilot project could
turn into something great for
Goderich, a pioneer in this
technology and for green
energy.
NRStor looked to build the
project in Goderich for rea-
sons that the underground
salt caverns were unused by
Compass Minerals and that
space where the air will be
stored, has a natural element
of pressure. NRStor will
bring business, albeit brief,
to local contractors to build
and maintain the facility.
Members of Goderich
Town Council each pro-
fessed their reasons for sup-
porting or in opposition to
bring this technology and
facility to Goderich.
"I want to see green elec-
tricity in the province of
Ontario. The price of elec-
tricity has gone through the
roof and wind and solar are
often unpredictable. Some
days we actually produce
more than we need,"
explained Councillor
Hansen, who shared opin-
ions and support of majority
of the Town Councillors. "If
this is a demonstration pro-
ject that can be successful,

we want to be a part of
something that allows us to
safely store energy without
using fossil fuels. It will be
safer for our children and
our grandchildren. If we can
find a way to safely store
energy without fossil fuels,
that will be good for our
environment."
According to Director of
Engineering at NRStor Inc,
Katherine Peretick, now that
the site plan has been
approved, the start-up com-
pany will continue to work
on permitting, in particular
air and noise permitting with
the Ministry of the Environ-
ment and Climate Change
(MOECC).
NRStor looks to continue
to work with partners at the
Town of Goderich; Goderich
Hydro and Compass Miner-
als to advance the project
towards connection to the
electrical grid. Construction
is expected to begin this
summer.
"Innovation is critical for
economic development in
Canada, and we're excited
to bring this special inno-
vative project to the Town
of Goderich. We are so
impressed with the dedica-
tion and professionalism of
the Town staff and love
their focus of wanting the
world to know that Goder-
ich is a great place to do
business," stated Annette
Verschuren, O.C., and CEO
of NRStor. "This project is
an important part of our
energy future"
