Goderich Kinsmen Club 70th Anniversary

This year marks the 70th
anniversary of the Kinsmen
Club of Goderich and on
Saturday May 13, the ser-
vice group celebrated the
milestone of "Serving the
Community's Greatest
Need':
The Kinsmen, Kinette
and Kin Clubs are the
country's largest all Cana-
dian service groups made
up of active volunteers in
communities.
The Kinsmen Club sup-
ports .Cystic Fibrosis
research and funds local
projects such as play-
grounds and ice rinks
across Canada.
Chartered by the Kins-
men Club of Stratford, the
Kinsmen Club of Goderich
was established on May 15,
1947.
"Last Saturday, over 100
past and present members
of the Goderich Kin fam-
ily, along with members of
Federal and Provincial
Parliaments, Goderich
Town Council and repre-
sentatives from all levels
of Kin enjoyed an evening
of reminiscing, story tell-
ing and
ell-ing'and laughter," said
Ryan McClinchey, Direc-
tor of the Kinsmen Club of
Goderich and Master of
Ceremonies.
According to
McClinchey, the highlight
of the evening came when
Life Memberships were
awarded to Lloyd Haskell
-and Peter Lovell.- Both'
long time members of
Goderich Kinsmen, both
having a huge impact on
the club's success, this is
the highest individual
award that can be
bestowed to a Kinsmen or
Kinette member.
Regular annual events
hosted by the Kinsmen
Club are: the TV Auction,.
the springand fall social
gaming events, the Easter
egg hunt, Summerfest, the
Santa Claus Parade, New
Year's. Eve Dance, Blood
Donor Clinics and Bona -
tions for Cystic Fibrosis
research. These fundraiser
events donate to where it is
needed most in the
community.
The Kinsmen Club's
upcoming events include the
Walk to Make Cystic Fibrosis
History on May 28, a Canada
Day dance on .July 1 and
Summerfest from July 13

The current members of
the Kinsmen Club of Goder-
ich hosted a fun evening of
stories and memories of the
past 70 years and according
to McClinchey, the Club is
looking .forward to many
more years of being involved
in the community of
Goderich.
"We would like to say
thank you to the people of
Goderich. Without your
support our clubs would
not succeed," McClinchey
said.
MP Ben Lobb presented a certificate to President Mike Austin,
recognizing the Club's 70 years of service.
