The beautiful sound of brass music
The year was 1994 and the
world was changing fast.
Nelson Mandela became
South Africa's first black
President, the popular US
sitcom Friends began airing
on TV screens across North
America, and children of all
ages lined up to see one of
the most successful ani-
mated films of all time: The
Lion King.
Another important event
happened in that year, on
Saturday evening, April 02
1994, The Salvation Army
Canadian Staff Band held a
sold out concert at Knox
Presbyterian church in
Goderich. Over 350 people
were treated to an amazing
brass concert by the world
renowned band.
Again in September 2000
the Canadian Staff Band
paid a visit to Goderich and
performed an inspiring Sat-
urday evening concert at
North Street United Church.
These two previous appear-
ances of the Canadian Staff
Band had been so well
received that it was felt that it
was time to treat our beloved
community to this incredible
brass band once again.
The Salvation Army in
Goderich is pleased to
announce that 17 years since
the last appearance of The
Canadian Staff Band in
Goderich that residents will
get another opportunity to
have their hearts uplifted
and their ears tingled as they
listen to this world
renowned brass band.
On Saturday May 6 The
Salvation Army Canadian
Staff Band will be perform-
ing a free concert at the per-
formance stage on the
square in Goderich at
2:OOpm. Free hot dogs will
be provided by the local Sal-
vation Army, so bring a lawn
chair and a friend.
The premier event of the
weekend will be a Saturday
evening concert held once
again at Knox Presbyterian
church. Tickets for the
7:OOpm concert cost $10.00
and are available at either
The Salvation Army thrift
store or Suncoast Citadel
Church office (303 and 309

is comprised of Salvationists
from all over Southern
Ontario and includes Cen-
tral Huron Secondary School
graduate Bradley Cox. CHSS
Music teacher Ms. Denise
Haines has had, and contin-
ues to have a very positive
impact on Bradley's life.
The Canadian Staff Band who will. be in Goderich May 6 and 7.
During his last few years
of high school Ms. Haines
encouraged Bradley not to
give up on music but to
nurture his instrumental
talent; which has lead him
to be one of the younger
members of the Canadian
Staff Band.

bration church service on
Sunday May 7 at Goderich
Collegiate Institute at which
the Canadian Staff Band will
provide special music.
It is not every day that a

perform a concert and so
the community is encour-

tremendous opportunity,
as it may be another dec-
ade before this happens
