Band celebrates
50th anniversary

The Goderich Laketown
Band, which has members
from all over 1 luron County,
celebrated its 50th anniver-
sary last Sunday.
On April 30, the Goderich
Laketown Band celebrated
with performances and'spe-
cial guest performers Duo
Percussion.
Hosted at Lakeshore
United Church, the Lake -
town Band performed the
world premier of 'Snug Har-
bour; written by Jeff Small -
man and commissioned
specifically for the Band's
50th anniversary.
According to the Band,
'Snug Harbour' portrays the
spirit of Goderich, its rela-
tionship to Lake Huron and is
a fitting salute to a commu-
nity that has supported the
band for the past 50 years.
The afternoon concert,
conducted by Hugh
McGregor and assisted by
Katie Dockstader, also enter-
tained the audience with
other compositions.
The band performed nine
compositions, some of
which were, "Royal Air Force
March Past', "A Centennial
Song", "Three Folk Minia-
tures" and "O' Canada':
Members of the Laketown
Band played an arrange-
ment of instruments varying
from flutes and saxophones
to trumpets and percussion.
Members of the band that
took part in the Sunday
afternoon celebratory con-
cert: Sarah Bos, Shannon
Kammerer, Esther Nuttall
and Linda Street played the
flute; Bonnie Dunn, Kari
Johnston, Wanda Keith, Hay-
ley Linfield, Marie McDade,
Colleen McGregor, Marilyn
Scott and James White
played the clarinet; Cheryl
Kruse, Paul McAuley, Peter
Morrison, Ineke Namink,
Jim Peters, Tyler Plasschaert
and Lisa Ringuette played
the saxophone; Jason LeR-
oux and Al Mullin played the
French horn; Karen Black-
well, Katie Dockstader,
Joshua Guichelaar, Don
Scott, Elaine Steinson and
Ted Turner played the trum-
pet; Ted McDowell, Don
McMillan and Nancy Ross
played the trombone; Ken
Dunn and Arend Streutker
on the baritone; Louise
Dockstader, Murray Keith,
Rae Melvin and Gary Shold-
ice on percussion.
Spare change for
Special Olympians
(HURON COUNTY,
ON) - The "Road Toll ;
which collected spare
change for Special Olym-
pians, was a great
success.
"We are absolutely
thrilled with the generous
donations to the Ontario
Special Olympics pro-
gram, said Huron County
Ontario Provincial Police
(OPP) Sergeant and Torch
Run Coordinator, Russ
Nesbitt.
The heaps of change
have been counted and
the results are no in for
the 2017 Easter Weekend
"Road Toll" Special Olym-
pics fundraiser.
In a five-hour period on
Saturday, April 15,
volunteers with the Huron
County Torch Run Com-
mittee collected $2, 225 at
the "Road Toll" set up at
the Hansen's Independent
Grocer in Exeter.
"I would like to thank
my team of volunteers for
their dedication to this
event, the public for their
generosity and the Hans-
en's for allowing us to
have the event on their
property," explained
Nesbitt.
The Huron County
Torch Run Committee
looks forward to the
Annual Law Enforcement
Torch Run scheduled for
Tuesday, Tune 13, 2017.
Details will be announced
in early Tune.
