selected for World
Championships
Goderich Shuffleboard
Club players Gerrit and Ger-
dien Dykman have been
selected by the Canadian
National Shuffleboard Asso-
ciation to represent Canada
in the World Singles Cham-
pionships in Rio de Janeiro,
Brazil this coming July.
They made a huge impres-
sion on Canadian National
Officials in the World Team
Championships held in St
Cloud, Florida Iast October
where they were asked to
represent their homeland,
Holland.
Gerrit and Gerdien are
avid Shuffleboard players.
They started in Goderich five
years ago and have traveled
the Province to play in all
five of the Ontario
Tournaments.
They Winter in Zephyrhills
and started out playing in
their Park, Gerrit has served
as President of the Club.
They decided they really
wanted to become better
players and two years ago
joined the Zephyrhills Shuf-
fleboard Club, one of the
premier Clubs in the entire
World. Certainly one of the
best decisions they have ever
made.
Both Gerrit and Gerdien
site "willingness to help, big
time" and all the friends
they've made who have
become family with each
other. They play almost
every day and have the
added bonus of loving to
play together and then talk-
ing over what they think they
could do better the next
time.
Although they have only
played for five years their
ability is really beginning to
show through. Gerrit won a
League Tournament Cham-
pionship playing with Henry
Gerrits another Goderich
Club member and winter
resident of Zephyrhills.
Gerdien had a "break out"
season placing in six of the
10 tournaments she played
in, qualifying her as one of
only eight to play in the Flor-
ida Shuffleboard Association
Central District Amateur

They have become a part
of the very successful Zephy-
rhills Shuffleboard Fabric
and we are thrilled to have
them.
The Goderich Club can
always use more players; the
season starts May 9 in the
old arena at 1:15pm. Come
out and join; we'll have fun.

John Campbell's retiring drive enhances an
already stellar season line up at Clinton Raceway
The addition of John
Campbell's retiring drive
during Legends Day 2017 is
the proverbial icing on the
cake for the season line up
at Clinton Raceway.
Opening day is just over
a month away, the unoffi-
cial kick off to summer,
Sunday May 21 at 1:30pm
will have race fans taking
part in a new revamped
Super Sunday Show, sup-
porting Central Huron
Secondary School with
their trackside fundraiser
and having the chance to
walk away with a share of
a race horse.
One winner will scoop
the $1000 prize from
Thestable.ca and of course
opening day collector
t -shirts will be available for
$2 each.
The 15 -week season once
again features a different
trackside fundraiser each
Sunday.
"We implemented the
trackside program over
the last few seasons" states
Marketing Manager Jes-
sica Carnochan, "and once
again this year we're
happy to host a variety of
different clubs, groups and
organizations from within
Huron and Perth
Counties"
Most feature a 50/50,
bake sale and BBQ while
some incorporate silent
auctions, raffles and car
washes. Each helping to
raise funds in an exciting
and entertaining
environment.
With highlights such as
The Kin Pace and Canada
150 celebrations taking
over the track on Sunday
July 9, the second annual

of course, Legends Day
Sunday July 30 the first
half of the season prom-
ises to be nothing short
of fantastic.
As usual, the 37th
Annual Charity Driver's
Challenge will close out
the 2017 season on
Labour Day weekend,
Sunday September 3. For

Soccer season begins for GDCI Vikings

Last week the GDCI Boys'
and Girls' soccer teams
began their seasons by
hosting Central Huron S.S.
and EE. Madill on Tuesday,
April 18.
Both teams, playing two
games throughout the day,
came away from the
matches on a positive note.
The Boys' team split the
games, winning 4-2 against'
Central Huron S.S. and fall-
ing to F.E. Madill 8-2.
In the Central Huron win,
goals came from Braeden
Duncan (2), Mason Clarke
and Kyle Smith.
Although the second
game was a loss, GDCI
Boys' soccer team was still
able to get on the board
with goals from Brandon
Bean and Jared Cox.
The Girls' soccer team,
who also played Central
Huron S.S. and F.E. Madill;
had a strong start to the
season, winning both
matches 3-0.
In the first win against
Central Huron, goals came
from Payten Lang, Selena
Reitsma and Shannon
Squire.
Going on to win their
second garne of the season,
and second game of the
day, the Vikings defeated
F.E. Madill 3-0, and saw
goals from Hayley Bowman
(2) and Payten Lang.
Not allowing any goals
for the opposition in both
games, goalkeeper Kayla
McCabe recorded shutouts

in the two matches.
The two Viking soccer
teams from GDCI have
upcoming matches hosted
at South Huron S.S. on
Tuesday, April 25.
The Girls' team will face
South Huron at 9am and
Stratford Central at
1 I:50am, while the Boys'
team will play against
South Huron at 10:25am
and Stratford Central at
1:15pm.
