Culbert's Bakery celebrates 140 years in Goderich

On a national scale, this
year marks the 150'' anniver-
sary of Confederation for
Canada, and local bakery in
Goderich is pretty close to
celebrating the same
milestone.
Culbert's Bakery on West
Street in Goderich, is cele-
brating 140 years as a bakery
in Goderich.
Rated five stars on food-
pages.ca and ranked num-
ber two in Goderich on tri-
padvisor.ca, Goderich's
oldest and most famous bak-
ery continues to be a staple
in the community.
Owned by Darin Culbert,
the third generation of Cul-
bert's to own the bakery,
Culbert's Bakery has been
through the ownership of
three different families and
survived damage from the
tornado in 2011.
"It opened in 1877 and it
was always a bakery to start
with. It wasn't always Cul-
bert's but it was always a
bakery," explained Darin. "In
1906 it was passed on to the

The number one seller at Culbert's Bakery is the cream doughnut,
otherwise popularly known as the "creampuff".

Darin's grandfather Mel
purchased the bakery in
1942, and when he retired,
passed it on to his son Berry,
who then passed it on to
Darin.
Darin began working at
the bakery at the age of 15
and has worked there for
over 35 years, alongside his
grandfather and father.
