OWHA Provincial Championship GoId Medal for local girl
Goalie Jamie Pritchard
was in the OWHA Provincial
Gold Medal winning, Huron
Heat Bantam BB team, the
weekend of April 7-9, in
Brampton.
Huron Heat was one of
only 3 teams out of 24 to win
all 3 games in round robin
play, which earned them a
bye to the quarter -finals on
Saturday evening as one of
the top 4 teams.
After a disappointing 4th
place finish in the Lower
Lakes Female Hockey League
Championship (LLFHL) the
previous weekend the team
came ready to play.
In the quarter -final game
they played Woodstock
Wildcats a rival from their
LLFHL West Division that
they had trouble with all
season.
In this match up the
Huron Heat girls made no
mistake winning 3-0. With
gold in sight, they played the
Timmins Falcons (the num-
ber 1 team in the Ontario
14U BB rankings) on Sunday
morning in the semi-final
game coming out on top 2-1.
Rose Pande got the start in
the gold medal game against
Ancaster Avalanche. At the
end of regulation time the
teams were tied at 0-0.
Three minutes into the
first period of 5 -on -5 over-
time, Huron Heat scored and
the gold was theirs.
What an achievement for
the girls' from rural Ontario
and the Huron Heat in its
first year as a new Female
Hockey Organisation.
