provided recognition
through a flag raising
ceremony.
The Autism Ontario flag
was raised alongside the
Goderich flag, with attend-
ance by Mayor Kevin Morri-
son and several other coun-
cil members.
"I think it's great recogni-
tion and important to raise
awareness. We have an
employee within our busi-
ness with autism. Ile is a
wonderful teammate, very
dedicated and focused. It's
great to see the recognition
for members of our commu-
nity that we are providing
here in the Town of Goder-
ich," Mayor Morrison stated.
The Co -Presidents of the
Huron -Perth Chapter of
Autism Ontario, Patrick Ryan
and Katie Brindley -Ryan,
brought their two children to
the flag raising ceremony,
Kimble Ryan and Xander
Ryan, who is on the

difference. Being with the
chapter has educated and
enlightened us on every end
of the spectrum. Being able
to find the help and to
become better equipped and
having a better understand-
ing is due to the support of
the community"
Statistically, one in 94 chil-
dren are diagnosed with
autism. It is something that
society is seeing more of,
and there is a need for
understanding, or how to act
and behave around some-
one who is autistic.
Katie Ryan explained,
"People need to be more
aware, more understanding
and accept that we might not
all be or have a neuro -typical
child but that diversity is not
a scary or bad word."
The Huron -Perth Chapter
of Autism Ontario raise
funding through the many
events they organize
throughout the community
and surrounding areas.
A fundraising walk along
the boardwalk of the beach
in Goderich on June 25 is
one event for the community
to mark onto their calendars,
in support of Autism
Ontario. -
"Usually in Goderich,
there is a barbecue that
brings awareness and dona-
tions. The money collected
goes towards one-to-one
funding, respite care fund-
ing, tech support funding,
cheaper stays at hotels and
anything that surrounds the
care of a child with autism,"
said Co -President, Patrick
Ryan. •
The Autism Ontario chap-
ter in Huron -Perth is on a
volunteer basis, where there
is a lot of one-to-one sup-
port, and all proceeds made
from fundraising events in

and Xander Ryan at the flag raising ceremony. Patrick and Katie
are Co -Presidents of the Huron -Perth Chapter of Autism Ontario.
