The regular season was a learning curve where the Coaching staff zeroed in on the penalty kill for obvious reasons. Silver Stick qualifier was the turning point and for the first time with minimal pen- alty minutes the team ended up with success with a 2-1 loss in the Semi- Finals against a much bigger centre in Strathroy whom won in the finals. As the Coaching staff with support of the Parents preaching clean hockey. The Sailors entered an much anticipated OMHA first round vs Kincardine which had been tight all year and eventually grinding it out -to a game 5 beating of the Flyers and moving on. A highly ranked South Bruce team with mainly 3rd year players were very tough and eventually eliminated the Sailors. from OMHA play downs. It was a great comradery trip for all whom were able to make it, and an experi- ence the boys will not forget, the rumbling is how do we get their next year LOL. The team returned to Goderich to finish the sea- son playing Shallow Lake in a best of 3 series for the WOAA championship, the boys fell short and lost 2 games to 1 in a very close 2-0 loss final. I have had the prestigious opportunity to have coached most of these kids since they were 9-10 years old and have made some very good bonds over the years as some will not return next year as Midget players due to age and school commitments. I personally would like to wish these young men the very best in all they strive to be, congratulations on a fine hockey career and keep your sticks on the ice, and don't forget FORECHECK BACK - CHECK PAYCHEQUE.
