In the evening on Thurs-
day, March 23 the Chamber
of Commerce organized a
`Business After 5' network
event, alongside the Hospital
Foundation and held at
AMGH.
Hospital CEO Bruce
Quigley opened the even-
ing thanking those in
attendance and explaining
how important the con-
nection between Hospital
and economy is, "There is
some interest with this
audience and the ecu-
nomic benefits we bring to
the local economy. We are
a high quality health care
service provider and we
have a role with the com-
munity economy. The
Foundation is a true
important factor and part-
ner to the success of the
hospital':

The VeinViewerFlex, the world's only portable vein illumination device, uses
harmless infrared light technologies to locate veins. It was purchased due to the
money raised at Hometown Heroes Charity Hockey game:
Such events are an oppor-
tunity for members of the
Chamber to network, as well
as an opportunity for differ-
ent business (depending
where the event is held), to
showcase their business.
On this particular evening,
the Hospital Foundation
wanted to show members of
the Chamber some of the
important and new equip-
ment that AMGH offers at
the facility.
The Hospital was able to
reinforce its and the founda-
tions importance to the
community through this net-
working event, informing
other local businesses on the
services AMGH provides.
Another important aspect
to the `Business After 5'
events is that members of
Chamber and other local
businesses are able to dis-
cuss upcoming fundraising
events.

The Hospital Foundation
raises funds through dona-
tions, events and grants,
which allows for the oppor-
tunity to purchase the equip-
ment the Hospital needs.
According to the Founda-
tion Coordinator, Shannon
LaHay, a common miscon-
ception is that the govern-
ment provides funding to the
Hospital for purchasing
equipment, but that is not
the case.

"The government pro-
vides operational funds
only. All equipment is pur-
chased through private
funding. With state of the
art equipment, the Hospi-
tal is not only able to pro-
vide better care and addi-
tional services (Obstetrics
and Gynecology, Dialysis,
Inpatient Mental Health
Care and Telestroke) to the
local community, but they
are in a better position to
attract physicians to the
Goderich area", LaHay
commented.
Events are the main way
the Foundation fundraises
for Hospital equipment, and
networking events such as
`Business After 5' gives other
local businesses the chance
to see what the money raised
from Foundation events can
provide to the Hospital.
There are two upcoming
Foundation events to keep
an eye on: The 3 -on -3 ball
hockey tournament on Sat-
urday, May 13 at the Memo-
rial Arena and the Cheers to
Good Health Tasting event
on Friday, May 26 at the
Huron County Museum.
Tickets to the ball hockey
tournament are a minimum
of $75, and tickets for the
tasting event are $50 each
and include admission to
the Museum, hors d'oeuvres,
one complimentary drink,
entertainment and a silent
auction.
Proceeds from both of
these Foundation events will
go towards "Priority Patient
Equipment" for the AMGH.
