Earning a Bachelor of Arts degree from Western,, Reverend Pickell then went on to study theol- ogy at Emmanuel College in Toronto. In his 35 -year career, Reverend Pickell preached at churches in Dorchester, Wawa, Sarnia, Wind- sor, and he retired and moved to Goderich. He continued to preach in Goderich, as well as in Bayfield and Clinton, when needed. As a minister, Pickell has per- formed a total of 1 083 baptisms, 421 burials, 691 weddings and 525 confirmations. Reverend Pickell and his first wife Donna (deceased), raised three children in Gode'rich, where the minister would preach at the Victoria Street Church, which fell in the tor- nado of 2011. While living in Goderich, Rev- erend Pickell was a supply minis- ter when any of the United Churches needed the help, as well as serving on the United Church Board. He also was an active curler at the Maitland until his mid 80s. Reverend Pickell reconnected with a parishioner from Sarnia, Donna (who coincidentally shares the same name as his first wife) in the early 2000s. Since both of their spouses had passed away, Reverend Pickell and Donna reconnected and decided to get married. Reverend Pickell now lives in Sarnia once again, where he continues to enjoy his growing family that includes three chil- dren - Norman, Virginia and Kathryn - as well as nine grand children, 10 great grandchil- dren, and one great great grandchild. To celebrate his 100th birthday, Reverend Pickell held a small reception after presiding over com- munion at High Park United Church in Sarnia, with a crowd of more than 200 people. Family, friends and long-time parishioners gathered to honour Reverend Pickell on his service to the United Church of Canada and the communities in which he has lived in. For Reverend Pickell, he said his Life has been blessed with the "good fortune" of having two won- derful wives and a career he's never once regretted. The Iluron County Ilealth Unit is expanding their support to mothers who are experienc- ing symptoms of postpartum depression, anxiety adjust nent issues by starting a Postpartum Depression support group. The group will be led by a pub- lic health nurse and mental health specialist, and will meet for six weeks. The first session is Apri118th in Clinton at 1 p.m. The program is free and child minding will be provided. Public Health Nurse Nancy Moore says symptoms of postpartum depression can present as anxiety, being unable to enjoy things, inability to sleep or concentrate, and prevailing sadness. Moore goes on to say, "Some symptoms may start during the pregnancy, some may come on totally unexpected. This is not just hormonal, but due to a mul- titude of reasons, from past experiences, genetics, lack of support, etc. The common thread is a feeling of hopelessness" Ten per cent of fathers may also experience this. Moore emphasizes that peo- ple experiencing this need to know there is hope. "Society expects moms and dads to be happy and just can't understand when they aren't. This isolation can lead to more feelings of loneli- ness. We encourage anyone expe- riencing this to join us. We want to help mothers realize their strengths and give them strategies to bring back their joy." FINALLY!
