Maitland Curling Play-off Report Play-offs began in both of the Maitland curling leagues last week. Both leagues have. 16 teams and for the purposes of the play-offs they are each split into two groups of eight with the top half of .each league competing for the 'A' Championship and the lower standing eight teams competing for the 'B' Championship. For the most part the 'A' side of the Monday/Tuesday league followed the form established in. the regular season. Top seeded Adam Glen scored early and often in beating 8th seed Joe George 9 - 2 and 2nd seeded Vicki Culbert scored an equally dominant 12 - 3 win over a frustrated Myles Murdock. The only upset on the 'A' side came when Liz Wilson and Deb Jepma threw three consecutive perfect draws to the four foot, buried, to score an 8 - 7 comeback victory over 3rd seed Roger Moore. In another close match Marc Monforton withstood a comeback bid by Greg Balina to hang on for a 7 - 4 win that wasn't decided until the game's last shot. The 'B' side went com- pletely to form. Top seeded Mike Dawson won in a walk- over when his opponent couldn't field a team. Sec- ond seed Ray Natuik scored an 8 - 6 victory over Lee Cairncross. Third seed Laurie Ginn made a spectacular double raise take-out to score two in the first end on her way to a 7 - 4 win over Chris Connor and Ron Brown and his team were on fire, blitzing the 'House Managers' 11 - 0 in a game that lasted only four ends. On the 'A' side of the Wednesday/Thursday league Kathy Hallam had a lead over top seed Ron Brown but Brown stole one in each of the last four ends to comeback for a 6 - 3 win. The second seeded Port Albert 'Ice Cubes', with Quaid Crawford at the helm, broke open a tight contest with two in the 8th end to secure a 6 - win over Faye Ribey. of enc si a na star.co Roger Moore Scored two in the seventh and then ran Dave Cloet out of rocks in the final end for a 7 - 4 win. The game of the night was the match between Deb Jepma and Myles Murdock. Jepma scored four in the first end only to see Murdock score seven over the next three ends to take a 7 - 4 lead. Jepma responded with another four -spot in the fifth to retake the lead 8 - 7. Mur- dock was up9-8going into the last end and with Jepma lying one her last rock slid just through to create a tie and the need for an extra end. In the extra Murdock made a great hit and roll to the four -foot forcing Jepma to make a difficult draw with her last shot which came up just short sealing the Mur- dock victory. On the 'B' side Vicki Cul- bert led off with a 9 - 2 win over Jeff Sowerby. There was a mild upset in the middle of this group, Team McNeil which finished one spot above Marc Monforton in the season standings but it was Monforton who jumped out to an early 6 - 3 lead after three ends. Lee Cairncross led the McNeils back to tie it after seven ends only to see Mon- forton rebound with two in the last end for a 9 - 7 win. The last two games were drama free as Parker beat Connor I 1 - 2 and I,ogten- berg beat Dunn 13 - 5. I$1114 GODERICH RINGEITE REGISTRATION let COME &GIVE RINGETTE A TRY!
