Female rendition of '.The Odd Couple' a success The hilarious and relatable story of two different personalities, that have a positive effect on each others lives will leave you rolling on the floor laughing Kathleen Smith Goderich Signal Star The female rendition of Neil Simon's 'The Odd Couple', directed by Lisa Hood, and with lead roles played by Cara Stephenson and Erin Marshall, proved to be a success. The play opened with a clearly care- less and lazy Olive walking into her apartment, played with perfectly natu- ral humour by Cara Stephenson; it was immediately apparent to the audience that this character was slovenly, care- free and wild. Slowly the other characters were introduced as the play progressed, each with a distinctive personality trait, or flaw, adding to the hilarious chemistry amongst the actresses. Each scene pulsated with tongue and cheek.hununir, and perfect comedic tim- ing on delivering the lines, but the real humour entered with the character of Florence and her interaction with Olive. Florence, played by Erin Marshall, brought a whole new element to the production - a character so uptight and seemingly incapable of enjoying any- thing, that she didn't seem to fit in with the other ladies around the Trivial Pur- suit board. There was a palpable chemistry. between the two leads, creating a sense of tension to portray differences and annoyances, yet were still capable of delivering captivatingly comedic performances. Stephenson (also in The Livery's upcoming production of 'The 39 Steps' starting in May) and Marshall were able to build off each other's performances, and effortlessly brought their charac- ters to life. According to director Lisa Hood, who will be acting in the 'Penelopiad' next and plans to direct again in summer 2018, opening night on Thursday, March 23 went wonderfully. "We were about 70 percent sold but the audience was laughing and having a great time. My personal favourite feedback was 'I peed! I laughed so hard that I peedr, said Hood. It was an enjoyable evening out in Goderich, where one could submerge themselves into the trials and humour of someone else's life. It is highly recommended to go to one of the upcoming shows of 'The Odd Couple' at The Livery and support the community and local theatre. Due to the onstage presence, no doubt attributed to the direction of Lisa flood, the comedic timing of physical comedy as well as delivering lines, the chemistry amongst all the performers, and the seamless work from the stage, lighting and music crews, 'The Odd Couplewas a great success. There are only three more showings at the Livery, on March 30, 31 and April 1, so get your tickets to this hilarious comedy.
