MAGUiRE, John Alexander -
John Alexander Maguire went peacefully home to be with the Lord,
on March 22, 2017 surrounded by his loving wife and adult children.
John was born December 24, 1927 in Stratford, Ontario. After high
school, he enrolled as an apprentice in the Canadian National
Motive Power Shops in Stratford and subsequently worked as a
machinist for the C.N.R on both steam and diesel locomotives.
Then on December 14th, 1950 he married the love of his life,
Gailya Campbell. When the C.N.R. shops closed in 1953, John
joined his father-in-law D.A. Campbell, selling insurance and
securities; ultimately becoming a Branch Manager at Sovereign
Life. In 1974, the Maguire's moved to Goderich. A craftsman at
heart, John decided to return to his trade as a machinist, and until
retiring in 1989, was employed at the Sifto Salt Evaporator Plant.
Extremely talented working with his hands, there was scarcely
anything that John couldn't build or repair. After obtaining his
private pilot's license in 1960 he rebuilt and flew three different
classic aircrafts. Other passions included Ham Radio, riding
motorcycles, building and collecting antique radios and skating. A
dedicated family man, John spent many summer afternoons on
Lake Huron aboard the family sailboat. John, a member of Knox
Presbyterian Church, Goderich was a man of strong Christian faith
who will be sadly missed by Gailya, his beloved wife of 66 years; by
his two children, Colleen Maguire and John "Cam" (Tracy) Maguire;
and by two grandchildren, Daniel (Megan) Maguire and Meghan
Maguire. He was predeceased by his parents Ira H.B. and Flo V.
(Newton) Maguire and siblings Viola (1912), Newton (1919),
Dorothy (1927), Muriel (1992), Myrtle (2003), and Charlie (2008). A
visitation was held from 1:00 to 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 25 at
FALCONER FUNERAL HOMES - BLUEWATER CHAPEL,
Goderich with the funeral to following at 2:00. pm. In lieu of flowers,
donations may be made to the Alexandra Marine & General
Hospital Foundation. Messages of condolence for the Maguire
family may be sent through www.falconerfuneralhomes.com
MAIZE-ALMEY, Diane -
April 26, 1963 - March 21, 2017
Daughter of John and Mary Maize, sister to Rick, Debbie
(Robertson), Randy, Ron, Donna (Caldwell), Rob and Chris and
numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews, grand -nieces and grand-
nephews. Beloved wife of Ian Almey, stepmother to his daughter
Sarah, mother of Mike Dynes and his wife Sarah and "Grammie" of
their children Storm and Brooke, passed away Tuesday evening
from complications arising from a tragic car accident. Growing up
on the family farm near Dungannon, Ontario gave Diane many of
the values she carried through her life; a love of horses and all
animals, the independence and willingness todrive her friends
places (at age 14), the knowledge that family unity is important and
that friends are no different than families. Diane understood the
value of a dollar, working for the Signal Star and a local pizza
restaurant. Diane graduated from GDCI in Goderich in 1981 and
attended George Brown College in Toronto. After graduation, she
moved to Newmarket and worked as a Child and Youth worker for
the York Region School Board for over 20 years. After her father
passed away, Diane returned to Huron County and continued her
work for the Huron Perth Centre, Betamarsh, Inc. and finally with
the Avon Maitland Schoolboard as a child and youth counselor at
GDCI and FE Madill secondary schools. It was here that Diane was
most effective in our communities, working with local youth, both
through the school system and in her private practice, "K.I.D.S."
(Kids In Delicate Situations). She was instrumental in steering
hundreds of local students from desperation towards a path to
success. Diane's approach to the youth in her care was the same
as with her family, her friends, and everyone she met, always ready
to help out, selfless, good humored, caring, thoughtful and
ALWAYS full of life. In a nutshell, she inspired those around her to
want to be better people. in 2010, Diane met the love of her life, Ian
Almey and his 6 year old daughter, Sarah whom she welcomed as
if she were her own. Ian and Diane were married in June of 2014.
They lived next to the family farm where she grew up until her
passing. A come and go celebration of Diane's life will be held at
the Knights of Columbus Hall on Monday, April 3rd between 2 and
5 pm. In lieu of flowers, a trust fund has been set up in her memory
to honour deserving youth in our community who have shown the
ability to overcome adversity and take the path to success.
Donations will be accepted at the event or through the McCALLUM
AND PALLA FUNERAL HOME. You are invited to sign Diane's
online book of condolences at www.mccallumpalla.ca
