To complement his Fire Ser- vice experience and edu- cation, Ryan has also dedi- cated eight years to the Canadian Military with a focus on training others. Chief Ladner's strong background in training will be an asset to the Emergency Services Train- ing Centre (ESTC). "Ryan brings an abundance of knowledge, professional- ism and enthusiasm to our community. Ryan is highly respected in the Fire Ser- vice and has extensive experience in training. I am very pleased that he has accepted this appoint- ment', said North Huron Reeve -Neil Vincent. Lad- ner will assume the posi- tion on April 1 after the official retirement of cur- rent Fire Chief David Spar - ling. Chief Sparling announced his retirement in January and has been working part -tithe to ensure the community was well protected until Lad- ner can begin. I.adner's initial focus will be on the ESTC and developing new training programs to increase the success of the facility. Recently the position of Director of Fire and Emer- gency Services was revised and the responsibilities of the Community Emer- gency Planning have been redefined. This will allow the new Fire Chief addi- tional time to focus on the Fire Department and the ESTC Huron County will oversee Emergency Plan- ning in cooperation with the lower tier municipali- ties, enhancing the cohe- siveness of emergency planning efforts in the community. "Under Chief Sparling's leadership, FDNH has become one of the most respected fire services in Ontario and it is my goal to continue with this success. I am honored to accept this position and look for- ward to working with and supporting the volunteer firefighters that proudly serve the community," said newly appointed Fire Chief Ryan Ladner. The official appointment took place at North Huron's council meeting on Monday, March 20.
