Brazilian Jujitsu is com-
ing to Clinton. Opening
April 3, the sport will be
taught in Clinton by head
instructor Shaun Gregory at
Huron BJJ.
The classes will take
place on Monday and
Wednesdays from 6:30-8:30
at WorkHorse Strength and
Conditioning on 158 Beech
Street. While classes are for
those ages 14 and up, Greg-
ory stressed two things -
you can be any age to pick
up Jujitsu, and beginners
are welcome.
"People think Jiu-Jitsu is a
kid's things, but that's not
true at all," said Gregory. "I
didn't start Jiu-Jitsu until I
was 26." When competing,
individuals are always put
against others in their age
bracket and at their skill
level.
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a
martial art and combat
sport, which teaches a
smaller opponent to sub-
mit a larger opponent
using proper technique.
The founders created the
sport by modifying Judo
and traditional Japanese
Jiu-Jutsu.
Now 32, Gregory has
grown tremendously in his
skills and love of the art over
the past six years.
Ile also emphasized that
they will cater to begin-
ners where they're at, and
anyone is welcome to join,
whether that's just to get
in shape, try something
new or because they are
interested in martial arts.
Both Gi and No-Gi classes
will be available. GI is
more formal and includes
belts while No-Gi can be
done without any
uniform.
Gregory's head instruc-
tor from Stratford, Ryan
O'Shea, will be creating
the curriculum for the
classes to train white
belts, the first level of Jiu-
Jitsu. O'Shea is a black
belt.who has been doing
Jiu-Jitsu for 12 years.
O'Shea commented, "the
curriculum used is in Strat-
ford was handed to me by
my head instructor in
Toronto, George Britto, who
is a third degree blackbelt
under the son of the creator
of the art. So as far as line-
age in concerned, we're
very close to the original
creators." O'Shea began Jiu-
Jitsu in Toronto and has
worked full time at his own
academy in Stratford for
three years.
"Shaun has really taken
off, and he's not just stop-
ping now with his own acad-
emy; he's continuing to train
under me. I look forward to
seeing what he can create
out there."
Gregory said he is excited
to have World lorse's facility
for the classes as he consid-
ers it to be one of the best
strength and conditioning
facilities in the area. "We
love that they're helping us
out."
However Gregory
believes the sport will pick
up speed quickly in Clin-.
ton. While currently they
are at WorkHorse, he said
in the future, he'd like to
see them with a,spot on the
main street teaching
classes daily.
"I don't want people to
feel afraid. Just come in, we'll
work at your level, and in no
time, you'll be a ninja - that's
what we always say. People
don't realize how fast they
will -learn"
Samuels Hotel delivering
cupcakes to the community

Owner and manager of
Samuels Hotel, Kim
Burgsma developed an
idea that grew into action -
deliver cupcakes to busi-
nesses and to the public in
celebration of Canada in
it's 150th year.
"Each time we go out,
we give away 150 cup-
cakes, randomly through-
out the 2017 year,"
Burgsma explained.
It is known that at the
Samuels Hotel, guests are
welcome to indulge in as
many free cupcakes as
they wish, throughout
their stay.
After receiving so many
compliments on the
made -from -scratch cup-
- cakes, made on the prem-
ises of the hotel, Burgsma
wanted to treat the
community of Goderich to
something sweet in cele-
bration of our great nation.
"Our cupcakes are gifts
to guests in general and
now it is our gift to the
people and businesses of
Goderich".
This is the first year
Samuels Hotel has deliv-
ered cupcakes throughout
the town (and some sur-
rounding areas such as
Clinton and Bayfield) and
taken the initiative to act
out of genuine kindness to
celebrate a sense of com-
munity during a milestone
for our country.
Burgsma stated that at
the time, it was unsure on
whether or not the hotel
would make this an annual
tradition.
However, she explained
that if there were a signifi-
cant milestone for com-
munity or country,
Samuels Hotel would
gladly celebrate in a simi-
lar manner.
The hotel delivered 150
cupcakes on Valentine's
Day; 150 cupcakes on the
first day of Spring; they will
deliver 150 cupcakes on
Canada Day - each time,
decorated to accompany a
specific thenie or holiday.
Burgsma delivers the
cupcakes herself, stating
that it is "fun to be in
touch with the commu-
nity who support our
business", and hopes to
have delivered to most of
the town of Goderich by
the end of the year.
"I would like to encour-
age others in the commu-
nity to do something spe-
cial and reach out. We live
in one of the most amazing
countries in the world and
we should celebrate that,
Burgsma said.
If you are interested in
signing up or have ques-
tions, call Gregory's partner,
Sarah Reed at 519-567-0094,
or go to the website at www.

Gregory said April 3 is a
free grand opening demon-
stration day, which means
anyone from the public is
welcome to watch or
participate.
There will be snacks and
refreshments with a door
prize.
