Grand Opening of 'West Sushi' New restaurant adding a new flavour to the West Street eateries Kathleen Smith Goderich Signal Star A new restaurant is in town and if the grand open- ing has any indication on how it will fair in Goderich, it will be successful. On Wednesday, March 22, 'West Sushi' opened its doors to the public for the first time and it was so busy, the average wait time was half an hour. "We didn't have the time to count, but there was roughly 350 to 400 people at the grand opening. Our offi- cial closing time was 7:30pm but because of the long wait- ing line we made food until about 10pm, said co-owner Jane Kim. It appeared that everyone in Goderich, as well as sur- rounding areas, on their lunch break wanted to give 'West Sushi' a try. Even though the wait time did scare off some potential customers who had limited time on lunch break (granted, this was opening day), the consensus of sev- eral people who attended the grand opening was that the food was worth the wait. Many in attendance at the grand opening praised how thick and fresh the rolls were, especially with the rea- sonable prices, stating that they would return and quite possibly become regular Kathleen Smith/Goderich Signal Star Freshly made sushi at 'West Sushi'. "So many people told us 'Welcome to Goderich: We realized so many people have waited for us to open, and thank you Goderich for waiting for us. We will make the food with all our heart and soul", Kim explained about opening in Goderich. Other customers noted how convenient having a sushi restaurant within Goderich was, looking for- ward to not having to drive to other towns to get their sushi fix. In regards to the success William and Jane Kim hope for their business 'West Sushi; they simply stated that "we want to specifically contribute to Goderich's economy and to be a part of it's atmosphere and environment" In a town that already draws tourists, adding a sushi restaurant to the vari- ety of eateries in Goderich can only assist in the appeal.
