Local Zehrs taking strides to
give back to the community
Kathleen Smith
Goderich Signal Star
For the past four years,
local grocery store and
conglomerate company
Zehrs has sponsored the
March Break free skate.
__Taking place at the
Goderich-Huron YMCA,
the free skate event took
place from Monday,
March 13th until Thurs-
day, March 16th, midday
from 12 until 1:30pm.
Children, siblings,
friends, parents and
grandparents could be
found skating around on
the ice, averaging 75 par-
ticipants each day.
At this family friendly
event, children and their
parents or grandparents
enjoyed a skate around
the rink, while taking
breaks to warm up with
Zehrs provided hot choco-
late and cookies.
The responsibility of
organizing an event to
promote a sense of com-
munity and enjoyment for
local children was passed
to a team of four Zehrs
representatives led by
Steve Hewitt (Store Man-
ager) and Todd Stanbury
(Assistant Store Manager),
with assistance from Jim
Bissett (Grocery/Assistant
Manager).
Grocery and Assistant
Manager Bissett spoke
about the matter of spon-
soring events, "We don't
put a dollar value on it at
all. Whether it's $5 or
$500, it doesn't matter. It's
all about giving back to
the community. That's
something we do at Zehrs.
In fact we are already get-
ting ready to do our next
community project, a
shoreline clean-up in
April':
Zehrs is not the .only
