FRANCES O'GRADY (NEE COOK)
It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to Frances (Cookie)
who passed away on Friday, February 10, 2017, at her home,
Gilmour Gardens, Richmond, BC. Frances was born on the Cook
family farm, just south of Bogie's Road, on Bluewater Hwy 21,
Colborne Township, on May 14,1930, and was the youngest of five
children. Predeceased in April 2015, by her loving husband of 53
years,Ted O'Grady. Frances was also predeceased by her
parents Oliver & Gertrude Cook (nee Quaid), her siblings and their
spouses Robert (Mildred), Jack (Jean), Frank (Isobel), Bernice
(Herb) Davidson, and her niece Patty (Cook) Laurin. Frances is
survived by nieces and nephews Leone (Jack) Thom, Wayne
(Michele) and Harold Cook; Ray (Peggy) Cook and Shirley Henry;
Pam (Dennis) Scharfe, Peggy (Danny) Parker, Paula (Arnold)
Willford; and Ken, Eleanor and Heather Davidson. She is also
survived by several great nieces and nephews and great, great
nieces and nephews. Frances graduated from Ryerson in 1949, as
a Licenced Practical Nurse and moved to Vancouver with her dear
friend Barbara Carbert in 1951. Frances worked at Shaunessy
Hospital in Vancouver first as an LPN and then as a ward clerk
from 1954 until her retirement in 1985. Frances touched the lives of
many and will be greatly missed. A funeral service was held on
Monday, February 20, 2017, at the Richmond Funeral Home
followed by internment at the Valley View Memorial Gardens,
Surrey, BC.
MacDONALD, Wanda June -
1935-2017
Wanda was born in Toronto the only child of Frank and Elaine
Beasley. She began figure skating at a young age and worked her
way up to her gold medal. During this time, she headlined many
skating carnivals in the U.S.A. and Canada including a stop in
Goderich. In 1955 she competed in the Canadian Nationals and
became the Canadian Jr. Ladies Champion. She turned down an
invitation to the World competition and in 1956 married Allan
MacDonald and moved to Goderich. She raised three children
Susan (MacDonald) Helm of Kitchener, Laura (MacDonald) Frayne
(Mark) of Dungannon and James (Jim) MacDonald and his
soulmate Heidi Tiedge of Toronto. She will also be sadly missed by
six grandchildren. At Wanda's request there will not be any
visitation or funeral service. Cremation has taken place. The family
will gather in the spring to plant a tree in her memory. In lieu of
flowers, donations made to the Alexandra Marine & General
Hospital Foundation or charity of your choice will be gratefully
acknowledged and may be arranged through McCALLUM &

MacDONALD, Francis Hugh -
1939-2017
Born in Clinton, ON November 11, 1939. Beloved husband of 55
years to Sandra Delight MacDonald (Eadie). Cherished father to
David, Patricia, Jeffrey and Beth. Loving grandfather to 8
grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Son of John Francis
MacDonald and Grace Wilhene Wightman. Dear brother to Evelyn
MacDonald of Stratford, Barbara of Burlington and Connie of
Bayfield area. Frank was a naturally skilled athlete with a passion
for many sports, including hockey, football, baseball, basketball,
track and field and hiking. He was also self-taught in the skills of
carpentry and woodworking. He chose banking as his first career
having been employed by the Royal Bank of Canada, Waterloo
Trust Company, Victoria and Grey Trust Company and British
Mortgage and Trust Company. After returning to University of
Western Ontario for a Bachelor of Arts degree, and to Althouse
College for a Teacher's Degree, he became an employee of the
Huron County Board of Education in roles as a secondary school
teacher, computer coordinator and Vice Principal at Bluewater
Correctional Institute. Frank lived in Clinton, Stratford, Corunna,
London, Galt and Kitchener over his lifetime, but considered
Goderich his home. He was loved, admired and respected by all
whom knew him for his kindness, directness, sense of fair play,
natural abilities, passion for sports and his desire to give his best to
whatever he attempted. He will be sadly missed by his wife Sandy,
his whole family and the many others whose lives he touched.
Sandy and family wish to express heartfelt thanks to Dr. Younus,
Dr. Leslie, Dr. Catton; Dr. Watson, Kari Johnston RPN and the St.
Elizabeth and AM&GH nursing staff for their high quality of care
during his illness and for the many gestures of kindness shown by
our friends and neighbors. Memorial donations made to the
Canadian Cancer Society or the Alexandra Marine and General
Hospital would be greatly appreciated by the family. You are invited

WELSH, Vernon Clarence -
1922-2017
Vern, formally of Oshawa and Goderich, passed away at Parkwood
Veterans Hospital in London on Friday February 24, 2017 in his
95th year. Vern was a World War 2 veteran who served overseas
with the Canadian Army in the 2nd Armoured Division. After
returning from Europe, he joined the Ontario Provincial Police force
and retired as the Chief Superintendent in Field Division at the
Toronto headquarters in 1985. Vern was a life member of the Royal
Canadian Legion as well as a Masonic Lodge member for over 50
years. He was a life member of the Ontario Provincial Police
Veterans Association. He was the proud recipient of both the
Queen Elizabeth II's Golden Jubilee and Diamond Jubilee medals,
the latter medal honouring outstanding volunteerism, community
and entrepreneurial achievement. He is predeceased by his father
James Oscar Welsh, his mother Mary Matilda (Truax) Welsh, his
twin siblings Murray and Marie (Bone) Welsh, as well as an infant
sister, Ada Mary and two sons, Darryl and Dennis both O.P.P.
Officers: Survived and lovingly remembered by his beloved wife
Janice, his mother-in-law Ruth McCosh, daughter-in-law Brenda
(Very) Welsh, grandchildren Nicole and Phil Bolton, Jeffrey and
Michelle, five great-grandchildren, Justin and Jonah, Jaynie, Lillie
and Andrew. Brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Judy and David
Watson and Joanne and Paul Graf. He will also be missed by
nephews, nieces, great-nephews, great-nieces, cousins and
friends. At Vern's request, cremation has taken place and there be
no visitation or funeral service. Private interment to take place at a
later date. As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations may
be made to a charity of your choice.
