This is the first Maitland curling report Fifteen weeks of curling wasn't enough to determine a regular season champion in the Monday/Tuesday curling league at the Maitland. Team Corrigan, who had the league lead for most of the season, suffered a 12-5 defeat at the hands of Vicki Culbert and the 'The Rock- ers' which left them both tied for first place with Team Glen who beat Marc Mon- forton's 'Team #5' 12-6. This required a tie=breaker to be activated which dropped Corrigan to third place by virtue of his losses to the other two. Glen and Culbert, both having beaten Corrigan, played to a tie in their match earlier in the year. So the tie was broken by considering their point differential across the whole season with Glenn coming out on top and earn- ing top seed for next week's play-offs. The standings are not quite final further down the table because there is one make-up game to be played. Greg Balina and 'The Replaceables' were 10-6 winners over Jeff John- ston. However with one game to make up, they could still fin- ish anywhere from fifth to seventh. Joe George beat the 'Red - blacks' 12-9 in a game that saw him blow a six point lead only to score four in the final end to claim eighth place and the last spot on the 'A' side of the play- offs. The loss relegated the 'RedBlacks' and 'Western Hawks' to the 'B' side after the 'Hawks' also lost 9-7 to Judy McLean. In games that didn't have quite as dramatic an effect on the standings, Team Brown beat Team Murdock 8-3, 'Ginn on the Rocks' beat 'The House Managers' 10-2 and 'Hurry Harrrd!' beat 'Granite Bottoms' 5-4.. opportunity for the new "Vikings" to gain valuable expe- rience in a real life cornpetition.
