Dublin Mercantile opening second store in Bayfield

Art and Cindy Larivee's
store Dublin Mercantile is a
core fixture of that town.
Now, after 17 years in Dub-
lin, they are starting a
second branch in Bayfield to
be called "Dublin Mercantile
in Bayfield':
While they had. talked
many times about starting
another store, the Larivees
decided to open the Bayfield
branch somewhat spontan-
eously. Cindy said they were
"looking for a project" and
decided to buy a cottage.
They started looking around
Grand Bend, and then went
up to Bayfield.
"We came up the street
by the square and turned
the corner, and Art said,
'what's that?' Art had seen
the vacant former Food -
land on Highway 21. "We
pulled in, looked at the
building, and said, 'that
would be a good location
for another store:"
Like that, the plan to buy a
cottage was scrapped, and
the couple chose to start up
another store.
They are very excited about
being in Bayfield. Cindy said
"it just felt right to us. It felt like
the same kind of community
Dublin is." They are also look-
ing
ooking forward to being on High-
way21.
Cindy expressed that they
don't want to take any atten-
tion away from downtown
Bayfield. They explored the
stores there and didn't feel
like their store will be dupli-
cating anything the town
already has.
The store in Dublin
began as just a retail store
and grew into a wholesale
business serving 3000
stores all over Canada with
seasonal and home decor.
The Larivees live on top of
that store and will continue
to do so.
Dublin Mercantile in Bay-
field will also be a very large
space at around 7000 square
feet, since it was a former
grocery store. Much work is
being put into restoring the
building, and it will look
completely different inter-
nally and externally when it's
done.
Dublin Mercantile special-
izes in seasonal decor but
also home decor such as
reclaimed. wood furniture,
small furniture items, bed-
room suites, dining rooms,
lamps, prints and wall decor.
While Dublin Mercantile
in Bayfield will be similar,
they also want each store to
have their own feel. That
means the Bayfield store will
have items that Dublin
doesn't have and vise versa,
for example Bayfield could
have more beachy items.
"We don't want to have
identical stores because they
aren't far away enough from
each other for that," said
Cindy.
They will be hiring at least
two new full time employ-
ees, though much of their
staff lives in between the
towns and will be able to
help at both.
The plan is to open at the
beginning of May. They will
post updates on their
progress on Facebook page,
Dublin Mercantile.
