PROBUS Goderich celebrated
PROBUS month on Tuesday,
March 7 with guest speaker Judy
Keightley who spoke about her
upcoming (Bayfield) theatre pro-
duction celebrating 150 years of
Huron County. Vignettes about
memorable events and people in
the County will be enhanced with
photos, and videos celebrating our
heritage. The meeting concluded
with a wonderful Legion Ladies
Turkey Lunch.
The name PROBUS was derived
from Professional and Business.
PROBUS was founded in England in
1966. It has since grown around the
world with PROBUS Canada
founded on March 17, 1987 at a
kitchen table in Cambridge, ON. This
year marks the 30th anniversary. 'I he
PROBUS Club of Goderich and Dis-
trict was started on October 15, 2002
with 58 charter members sponsored
by the Goderich Rotary Club. The
first President of the Goderich Club
was Glen Gardiner.
Each club is made up of retired
or semi -retired people who want to
keep involved in their community
and stimulate their minds. Some
clubs are female, some male and
others are a mixed club as is the
one in Goderich.
On the first Tuesday of every
month from September to June at
10 a.m., the Goderich Legion hosts
an average of 55 people to have a
short business meeting and hear a
guest speaker. After the meeting,
many of the members go out to a
local restaurant for lunch and con-
tinued discussions.
Several times a year, the Special
Events committee organizes excur-
sions and activities. In the past
year, they have visited the Sallows
Gallery, a sugar bush, a hobby tour
that included the Sharp's Creek
