Special to the Signal Star
After 67 years of operation,
the Goderich Lions Young
Canada Week Peewee
Hockey Toumament is going
to the dogs.
That's right! At the open-
ing ceremony of the 68th
YCW tournament, sched-
uled for 7:25 p.m, on Friday,
March 10, at the MRC, a dog
will be the guest star for the
puck -drop ceremony. The
dog will represent the Lions
Foundation of Canada Dog
Guides, a program that
assists Canadians with a
wide range of disabilities.
This is one of the Lions
Clubs' major charities and is
one in which they take a
great deal of pride. The dog's
name is being kept secret,
but the canine star will not
be alone at centre ice.
Dignitaries also taking
part will include MP Ben
Lobb, MPP Lisa Thompson,
Goderich Mayor Kevin
Morisson, special guests
Mary and Dirk Wolterbeek
and Lions Club representa-
tives. Two pipers, represent-
ing the Celtic Blue Pipe
Band, will also be part of the
ceremony. The two teams
taking part in the official
opening game following the
ceremony will be the Goder-
ich Lions Peewees and the.
BCH (Bayfield, Clinton,
Hensall) Peewees.
