appointments: International Trade and
Indigenous Relations and Reconciliation
Huron -Bruce MPP Lisa
Thompson has been
appointed the Official Oppo-
sition's International Trade
Critic, as well as Indigenous
Relations and Reconciliation
Critic.
"I'm looking forward to
taking on the challenges and
opportunities that these two
portfolios provide for our
province," said Thompson.
"For the last decade, the
bad policies, waste and mis-
management of this Liberal
government have discour-
aged businesses and com-
munities from investing and
growing in Ontario. I'm look-
ing forward to continuing to
share our message that
under a PC government,
there will be an Ontario
advantage, where once again
our province will become a
place to prosper and do
business."
As part of her new role,
'Thompson is responsible for
building a more prominent
focus on international trade
and identifying opportuni-
ties for Ontario businesses to
engage in new markets, all
the while fostering strong
relations with neighbouring
jurisdictions.
The Indigenous Relations
and Reconciliation Critic
appointment is also an honour
for Lisa. In this role, she will
work closely with Ontario's
indigenous communities in
order to understand their con-
cerns and identify opportuni-
ties to work better together.
Along with her new duties,
Lisa will continue to serve as
a member of the Standing
Committee on General Gov-
ernment, as well as the
Ontario Representative to

the Commonwealth Women
Parliamentarians for Canada
Region. Lisa's top priority
however, remains represent-
ing the interests of residents
in Huron -Bruce.
"Huron -Bruce is central to
everything I undertake in the
legislature. Ensuring that our
voices, concerns and inter-
ests are well represented will
always be my primary focus,"
concluded Thompson.

"United Way brought 211
to our area five years ago,"
said Susan Faber, director of
community information.
"The 211 number fits in the
same system as 911, 411 and
511 and offers a live referral
service."
The service is free and
confidential. The service is
available in more than 150
languages to provide help
with questions both large
and small.
"By simply dialing 211 and
sharing your challenge, the
trained specialist will sort
through ways local commu-
nity services can help you,
then provide their contact
information to you or trans-
fer you directly to the appro-
priate department," Faber
said.
The front-line call takers
are trained counsellors
who can help with prob-

also provide help and
advocacy where needed.
For example if a caller
needs transportation to
reach recommended
services.
"A mom may need home-
work help for a child, a
caregiver
may need respite, some-
one recovering from
surgery may need food
and home help, or it could
be a desperate phone call
about the loss of a job,
with rent due, an empty
pantry andchildren
depending on them. 211 is
for everyone."

online as well and to coin-
cide with 211 celebrations an
