No alcohol being sold at Harry Potter extravaganza

If receiving a buzz off of
booze is your foremost
intention for the Iiarry
Potter event in Goderich,
coordinators are informing
drinkers to look
elsewhere.
Making a splash creating
their own sober buzz, the
second year of welcoming
the Transfigured Town Festi-
val, originally 6000 tickets
were up for grabs, followed
by an additional 2000 tickets.
They then opened up 1000
tickets to the locals.
This viral prominence has
overwhelmed the region;
Nathan Swartz who is
responsible for the organiz-
ing of the enchanted event,
told Postmedia that when
the attendance is .larger
than the entire Goderich
population and then alco-
hol is available there is a
concern of countless
problems.
"In many ways, Harry Pot-
ter is a kid's story and they
want to make sure it stays a
kid's story," Swartz stated at
A wand shop within the Huron County museum.
Goderich council Feb. 6,
referring to his recent talks
with Warner Bros., which is
the .organization that's the
production home of Harry
Potter.
"They don't want any bad
publicity and I understand
(this), we don't want any bad
reputation to a book we
love."
From back and forth con-
versations with his insur-
ance agent, Warner Bros.
and the Town of Goderich,
Swartz said the decision to
forgo any alcoholic bever-
ages seemed logical.
"We really want to work
well with Goderich Council
because we not only want
this festival to go well, we
(also) want Goderich (resi-
dents) to be happy how the
festival went," he said. "So
we can continue to do it,
year after year."
Swartz attended the
Goderich Council with a del-
egation armed with a
request for free use of the
town's square; this includes

Myles Murdock, Goderich
Coun. said the recent verdict
of cutting alcohol out of the
fun is certainly persuading
council to listen to Swarts's
requests.
Though he did mention,
businesses connected to the
BIA may serve alcohol on
their premises while the
affair is running, which
takes place from October
2016

"I think it's a fair assess-
ment to say that this is not a
place to party, it's for the
kids," Murdock said in a
recent phone interview.
"I think given the folks
it's directed at, the people
that are really into Harry
Potter and that whole
mentality, the fantasy and
the wizardry, I don't see
other than potions, that
having alcohol be part of it,
I don't know why you
would include it," said
Murdock.
Council made a motion to
direct staff to prepare a draft-
ing agreement for Swartz's
request. Through emails, the
organizer said he does not
"foresee any difficulties in
this regard."
