Dave Mounsey Memorial Awards

David Yates, Goderich council-

in the Signal -Star, received the
Meritorious Service Medal for his
ongoing assistance in remem-
brance and providing names of
fallen WWI and WWII soldiers.
One such fallen member, Lt. Flor-
ence Graham was from Goderich
and joined the US Nursing Corps.
She died in 1919 (still in WWI)
and we received a thank you letter
from the Major General of the US
Nursing Corps.
The Meritorious Service Cross
Award was presented to Wayne
McConnell of Goderich, one of
the founding members of the
Dave Mounsey Foundation and
one of the longest serving board
members. Involved in military
armoured reserves since 1991,
McConnell has served as OPP
Auxiliary Constable for 10 years
and has been a driving force
behind the success of the local
Maitland Squadron 52 Air
Cadets program. Recruited by
fallen Goderich Polie Service
Constable Rick Livessey in 1996,
McConnell has served the air
cadet program for 20 years.
The SC Bruce Crew Sportsman-
ship Award was presented to the
Cruickshank family of Goderich
in memory of Doug Cruickshank,
a local hockey volunteer and pro-
moter who coached the
Signal -Star Juveniles for many
years with PC Bruce Crew, who
was killed on duty south of
Goderich in 1983. Doug Cruick-
shank Jr. accepted the award on
behalf of the family.
The Sgt. Margaret Eve Award
for Volunteer of the Year was
presented to Crystal Taylor of
Blyth for her dedication to the
efforts of lora Legions and its
care for veterans. Taylor created
the Timmies for Soldiers cam-
paign for soldiers in Afghanistan
and she worked tirelessly with
the Blyth Legion to create
awareness and offer resources
for those suffering from PTSD.
The Cpl. Matthew Dinning
Award for Volunteer for Veterans
and Service Persons, was awarded
to Robert Smith of Mississauga, a
retired member of the military.

ports local cadet programs.
The PC Vu Pham Award for
Youth Volunteer, was presented
to Ryan Miller of Zurich, who
established the first Active
Minds Chapter in Canada at the
South Huron High School in
Exeter. The group has had great
success in helping guide young
adults through the anxiety of
adolescence and feelings of
depression. Constable Vu Pham,
of Wingham, died after being
shot on duty in March 2010 in
rural Huron County. He was an

and volunteer in kVingham.
I he Paramedica Paul Patterson
Life Saving Award was presented
to lVard Smith, invoked in three
life-saving attempts that resulted,
most recently, when he helped
with CPR to revive vital -signs
absent from a woman found on
the side of the road. He had also
tried to revive a youngster at pool -
side in Goderich and attempted
to rescue a woman in the freezing
waters of Lake I luron.
The annual Run Around The
Square in Goderich is one of the
two biggest fundraisers for the
DMMF, attracting over 400 run-
ners to the Goderich Square and
allows the fund to make a defib
donation that very day. Steve
Bearss was recognized with the
Top Sponsorship Award.
DMMF Commendations were
awarded to Debra Grant,
Rhonda Hanley and Nick Wil-
son, who were instrumental in
the success of the Dancing With
the Stars 911 Event.
A Meritorious Service Medal
was presented to Rescue 7 for
their seven-year relationship
with DMMF as a supplier of
defibrillators as well as with
donations of units.
