I punched out from work at 4pm and immediately ran home to grab my camera and tripod. As I approached home I saw my roommate packing up her car to go out. After saying hi I quickly asked her for a ride down the hill to the beach so I could save time to get there. She granted my wish so I ran inside to grab my gear. As I'm gathering my equipment I am in a panic because I can't find the plate that holds my camera on my tripod. So after trashing my office room I settled for my older, less luxurious tripod while thinking of an old saying, "just make it work," I hopped in the car and we arrive down the hill to the beach only to be awed by this marvellous site here in the backyard of our own town. It's cold but that wasn't even a thought. I begin scaling the hills of snow that the lakeside created in previous windstorms. As exercise caution, staying clear of any edges, I look for natural elements that will compliment the sunset background. My fingers become less agile but I still don't realize this. As the sun gets below the horizon and spreads the illumination throughout the sky the light gets too low for free hand photos so I use my tripod to properly capture this majestic landscape. In between shots I take time to experience these moments with the distractions of actually photographing them. The ice creaks and the water underneath swooshes in the distances. The odd time you hear the ice snap from the water pushing up from below. At this point I feel the power of Mother Nature and all the elements that be and I start to feel the cold but the view is too good so I continue to shoot until the red fades into a deep blue darkness. Abruptly, in the cold night, I am done and now I journey home feeling grateful of life and this wonderful place.
