to help send 'Li'I Blues Pill' to Memphis
The Bruce County Blues
Society, in association with
the Bruce Steakhouse, is
hosting a fundraiser on Sun-
day Jan. 15 to raise monies to
cover expenses for the band
they are sending to Memphis
at the end of this month.
"Li'l Blues Pill',' a trio from
Toronto and London, will
represent the blues society at
the four day long Interna-
tional Blues Challenge in
Memphis, Tennessee.
The fundraiser is from 2-5
p.m. at The Bruce Steak-
house with admission by
donation at the door.
"As a Canadian blues soci-
ety affiliated with the Blues
Foundation, we see this as
part of our commitment to
promote the blues, giving
Canadian artists the oppor-
tunity to compete on the
international stage," said
Debbie French, president of
the Bruce County Blues
Society. "Travel, accommo-
dations, and meals for the
four days in Memphis for the
trio will be considerable so
we are hoping for a good
turnout of local blues fans on
January 15."
The International Blues
Challenge is the Blues
Foundation's signature event
that turns all of Beale Street
into a four-day big blues
venue for more than 200
blues acts from around the
world.
The 2017 International Blues
Challenge will be the 32nd
year of blues musicians from
around the world competing
for cash, prizes, and industry
recognition.
The world's largest gather-
ing of blues acts represents
an international search by
The Blues Foundation and
its affiliated organizations
for the Blues Band and Solo/
Duo Blues Act ready to take
their act to the international
stage.
Li'l Blues Pill won the
Regional Qualifier, "Journey
from Queen Street to Beale
Street" held by the Bruce
County Blues Society in
October.
In order for a Canadian
band to compete at the IBC's
in Memphis, they first need
to compete in a local compe-
tition hosted by a blues soci-
ety affiliated with the Blues
Foundation.
This is the fifth time that
the local blues society has
sent a band to Memphis.
