Goderich Signal Star, 2017-01-04, Page 10Huron Shores Hospice gets an additional $30,000
pledge from Duncan and Lesley Hawthorne
The 1 luron Shores 1 lospice
is at 46 per cent of its financial
goal, after another large con-
tribution by former Bruce
Power CEO Duncan
Hawthorne.
The organization
announced that Duncan and
his wife Lesley added a
$30,000 pledge to the $20,000
personal donation they've
already contributed.
On top of these donations,
the Community Foundation
of Grey Bruce has provided a
grant and the Municipality of
Kincardine has pledged
$5,000 for 2016 and again for
2017.
On Sept. 20, 2016 the organ-
ization held a public informa-
tion meeting in Kincardine
that was attended by over 100
people.
"We were delighted by the
turnout and by the number of
you who committed to work-
ing with us as volunteers," the
organization's newsletter
reads. "Quite a few of you also
pledged financial support, for
which we are very grateful."
Since then, the committee has
visited the municipal councils
of Kincardine and Huron -Kin-
loss, distributed sponsorship
packages to large local
employers of the area, and
scheduled visits with local
service clubs.
Group that would like to
hear what they organization is
are asked to contact us Huron
Shores Hospice.
"Community response has
been gratifying," the newslet-
ter continues. "We have com-
mitments from Bruce Power,
Bruce Municipal Telecom
Services, and Superheat FGH.
So the campaign is off to a
great start_"
Huron Shores Hospice is
also waiting for its CRA chari-
table number to come
through, and until then

Impaired driving
charge laid
A 30 -year-old driver from North
Huron is facing charges of
Impaired Driving & Over 80 fol-
lowing a traffic stop that took
place mid-December. Just after
6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 20,
2016 Huron County Ontario Pro-
vincial Police (OPP) received a
call about an erratic driver trav-
elling westbound on Amber -
ley Road into Huron County.
Huron OPP officers began
patrolling for the erratic driver
and within minutes the sus-
pect vehicle, a blue Ford F-150
was spotted on Amberley
Road near Bluevale. A traf-
fic stop was initiated and the
driver pulled over as directed.
While speaking with the driver
the officer detected the odour
of alcohol coming from the
driver. In addition, the officer
made several observations
that indicated the driver's abil-
ity to drive a motor vehicle
was impaired by alcohol.
As a result, the driver was
placed under arrest for impaired
driving and transported to
the Listowel OPP Detach-
ment for breath tests. He sub-
sequently provided two sam-
ples of his breath to a quali-
fied intoxilizer Technician and
both of his samples regis-
tered over the legal limit.
The 30 -year-old from North
Huron has been charged
with Impaired Driving & Drive
Motor Vehicle - Over 80 Milli-
grams of Alcohol. He has been
released from custody with a
court appearance scheduled for
January 23, 2017 at the Ontario

90 -day driver's licence suspen-
sion and his vehicle was towed
